2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

Let's try this again adding Schutt and removing Scott Davidson keeping him in the BCHL for another year. I see them carrying 27 not 28 especially when they said they are having a recruiting class of 10 players.

Forwards (15)
Smith-Peca-Anas
St. Denis-MacMaster-Tiefenwerth or Schutt
Renouf-Clifton-Renouf
Pieper-Taverner-Pieper

Scratches
Schutt or Tiefenwerth
Jonzzon
Gadoury

Defense (9)
Federico-Clifton
Toews-Barron
Smith-Sherbinin

Scratches
Fiala
Hilbrich
McKernan

Goalies (3)
Garteig
Meyers
Lawrence

That gives them 28 players. The forward depth should be much better this coming season with a good amount of goal scoring talent coming from the BCHL in Landon Smith, the Pieper brothers and the Renouf twins. MacMaster and Taverner should be really good contributors especially MacMaster from the AJHL. We should be able to roll out 4 lines of players that played Jr. A hockey in Canada or players that played in the USHL. The Piepers for instance have both USHL and BCHL experience.

The defense is returning everyone except Tolkinen and adding on McKernan who will probably be scratched while learning the ropes. He will see some time though. This unit should be much better next season with the experience they have under their belts.

The goaltending should be good again led by Garteig with Meyers and Lawrence fighting it out for the #2 spot.

Here is the breakdown by class

Seniors (2)
Peca
Federico

Juniors (6)
St. Denis
Garteig
Barron
Meyers
Jonzzon
Hilbrich

Sophomores (9)
Tiefenwerth - redshirt sophomore
Anas
Tim Clifton
Schutt
Connor Clifton
Toews
Smith
Sherbinin
Fiala

Freshman (10)
Smith
MacMaster
Jonah Renouf
Nathan Renouf
Bo Pieper
Canon Pieper
Taverner
Gadoury
McKernan
Lawrence

Very young team with 19 of the 27 underclassmen but talented underclassmen. It may take a little time for them to gel as a unit but this could be a solid season if things click early. One concern is the lack of size on the front end.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

It's strange to see no Jones on the roster.

Any official word that Peca is coming back? I know all indications were that he is coming back but I just havnt't seen anything on it.

No info but I think he would have already left to sign an ELC already like most juniors or underclassmen have already.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

I think Fiala will play over as herbs too. Also I don't think Shutt or Tiefenworth will get scratched. Both those guys will be in almost every lineups Tiefenworth is solid

Possibly then either Clifton or Taverner is scratched because I think there is no way you are scratching the Renoufs or the Piepers due to the chemistry between them as players.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

I am interested to see where Lemire, Lucyzk and Rouleau transfer to. I don't think the 3 are going to end up as a higher end D-1 program or even a mid tier program. I think they could possibly find a home with an AHA team or some D-3 programs.

Tim had a great year IMO. I think you may have to split one of the pairs up if Taverner outplays them. All speculation of course but worth talking about

Absolutely. Lemire and Luczyk are from boston so a Bentley or Holy Cross seem reasonable. Were Rouleau or Luczyk ever on the roster on the website cause I don't see them right now on the one I'm getting on my phone.

They were on the roster but they have since been removed. Lemire is the only one of the 3 still on there.

Definitely worth talking about. Though possible they keep Taverner back for another season and bring over another player. Until we get the full list of LOI's its all speculation. Only confirmed so far are Smith, MacMaster, Lawrence and McKernan.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

The Western Canada Cup kicks off tomorrow and the Coquitlam Express are in it (Bo and Canon Pieper). They don't play until Sunday though.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

Hockey banquet tonight! This is always a fun evening and a great way to send off the senior class. The team awards will be handed out and hopefully next years captain will be announced. I'm looking forward to attending and will post a recap late tonight or tomorrow.

2013-14 Awards

MVP: Connor & Kellen Jones

Rookie: Sam Anas

Coach's Award: Cory Hibbeler

7th Player: Bryce Van Brabant

Academic Award: Soren Jonzzen

In 2014-15 we will have co-captains in Dan Federico and Matt Peca.

As usual, another fantastic banquet to celebrate a fantastic season.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

Makes sense to go with co-captains for next season as they are the only two seniors on the roster of which will be a very young team.

UNH defenseman Justin Agosta will transfer to Quinnipiac and be eligible immediately, per source. He graduates so doesn't have to sit out.

More depth on defense. Here are his stats from this past season. I expect him to play in the lineup immediately.

41 games 6 goals 20 assists 10 PIM's Minus 3 rating

Elite Prospects list him at 6'3 201 so it brings much needed size to the defense.
