2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

Bryce Van Brabant was in the lineup tonight and I saw him on the ice for the Flames. He becomes the first Bobcat ever to play in the NHL.

5:36 Ice time for BVB and one penalty for high sticking. Even +/-

Another nice write-up about BVB. Really interesting comments from the coach.

Anyone hear anything further on the Jones'? Seems odd that they wouldn't be signed by now. I'm guessing that due to the fact Kellen was drafted and Connor wasn't, they might be holding out until the end of the regular season so that they can both sign as free agents (isn't that what JST is doing as well)?

The Jones' are close to both signing with the Oilers. JST is expected to wait to be a free agent

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

Watching Bryce was awesome. Looked pretty good out there. I believe he fell on the high stick and his stick caught someone's face. My computer skipped over and I briefly caught a replay

Interesting, they will be competing with Yale's Miller and Arcobello for room on the depth chart.

BCHL Recruit stats from last nights action as Coquitlam won 6-3.

Bo Pieper 2 goals
Canon Pieper 2 assists

Coquitlam next plays on Thursday

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

Quinnipiac’s recruiting class of 10 (eight forwards, a defenseman and a goalie) is strong on paper. Landon Smith, who led the British Columbia Hockey League with 83 points this year, is an impact player. Tanner McMaster, originally committed to Boston College, changed his mind last month and is heading to Hamden. The Bobcats are also getting a replacement set of twins in Jonah and Nathan Renouf as well as brothers Canon and Bo Pieper, all out of the BCHL.

The goalie is Sean Lawrence out of the Jr. Bruins, the Defenseman is Kevin McKernan also of the Jr. Bruins. So with Smith, MacMaster, the Renoufs and the Piepers accounting for 6 of the the forward spots I expect Andrew Taverner out of the AJHL to be the 7th forward. That leaves either Nelson Gadoury, Scott Davidson or Craig Martin as the 8th forward. I'd go either Gadoury or Davidson for size and toughness. This doesn't include K.J. Tiefenwerth who is a transfer but was on the roster this year but as a redshirt player.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

The schedule is set as well.

Quinnipiac’s non-league schedule will include at least nine games against Hockey East competition. There are home-and-away series with UMass Lowell, Merrimack and Massachusetts, a two-game set with Northeastern and one with UConn in Hamden.

A new tournament at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, to be played Dec. 27-28, also includes UConn, Sacred Heart and Union. The Bobcats’ final non-league game is with Bentley.

Not a fan of the tournament. We will possibly play Union a 3rd time and possibly even more in the ECAC tournament. Not that is bad if Union is good again but it might benefit from playing a team out west instead. Possibly 2 games with UConn who will likely struggle a bit next year in Hockey East. I'd rather a better opponent than Sacred Heart. Bentley had a nice year in the AHA but who knows if that was a one hit wonder.

I like UMass Lowell and Northeastern on the schedule though. I really want to get either UNH, BU, Vermont on the schedule at some point. I am surprised that we are not playing Providence again next year.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

I would like us to play a good Western team next year. I think its hard to get one of them to commit to playing us so Rand is saying we're not going to just travel to you without you returning it the next year

From what I know within the athletic department if Quinnipiac going west to any legit team they want a return trip by them to Hamden or its not happening. Only ones to do it so far are UNO, St. Cloud State and Ohio State.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

I think the recent changes to the PWR may soften some of that thinking by the western teams going forward (key word being "may"). While money is first and foremost, road wins are much more favorable now. You also need to remember that most OoC games are set 2-4 years in advance. It's conceivable that we'll see other foes in the 2015-16 season which is 2 years after our Frozen Four run.

That would make me happy. I flew down to see the 2 games at St. Cloud and I seem to recall a fair amount of years ago
QU were in Denver...or somewhere in Colorado.

I think it's reasonable to assume a game will be played in Colorsdo with the addition of Landon Smith. I'm not sure if Rand guarantees stuff like that to big time recruits but I do know they fly some parents' out twice a year so who knows

Congrats to two legendary Bobcats @conjones10 and @15keljones, on their way to OKC. #montrose

They both sign with Edmonton organization.

You must be mistaken or you should expect an NCAA Investigation!! It would be against every rule to fly parents out to the school or have a booster pay to fly them out. The only time this is permitted I believe is during official visits during the recruiting process. Furthermore, no way Rand could guarantee games in Colorado. Some games are scheduled years in advance. Some teams only have 4-6 games to work with in a given season. It's possible, but not at all easy to pull off.

Your right they don't fly them out. And I'm talking in the next 4 years they'll play in Colorado most likely. Not next year

I hope RP can pull that off, but it's not always that easy. Depends on what DU and CC have locked in already for the next 4 years, then what Q has locked in, and then you look at possible dates that are not locked in. In other words, don't hold your breath but be optimistic.

Re: 2014 Quinnipiac Bobcats off season

This is just a hunch, but I don't think we'll be heading west anytime soon unless Rand can find a reciprocal agreement with someone. He, and QU, really want teams to come to the Bank, and I can't blame them. One of the few teams I can think of that might consider it would be North Dakota, as they have regularly traveled east in the past.

I hope I'm wrong, but that's the feeling I get from hearing Rand over the past few seasons.
