2014 Commitments

Re: 2014 Commitments

Eastern teams are recruiting from the wrong junior leagues.
I think being eastern has made it harder for the eastern teams to recruit from the BCHL, and NAHL, 2 top jr leagues, and add to the fact that not to many of these players from those leagues go D3,there is not a big number of players to choose from.I think Oswego did a pretty good job last year in getting a few guys from dofferent leagues and diversified if you will more than in the past....also cant seem to keep up with all the Jr leagues in the east:eek:

Re: 2014 Commitments

Looks like the Pios picked up a netminder to ston'em at The Aud...Cory Simic 6' 170lbs CCHL, played for 3 different teams 2013-2014.

Re: 2014 Commitments

I am hearing some positive developments in regard to the SNC recruiting class for the upcoming season...
Looking like three D-men: two who played in the BCHL last season....both over 6'3" and 220#.
plus three -- four forwards....including one who played a key role in the Fairbanks Ice Dogs run to the NAHL championship..
Nothing official until they walk on campus in August...

Tanner Froese from the Estevan Bruins of the SJHL is one forward as mentioned earlier in this thread. I'd guess Kyle Lee formerly of Wausau West is the forward from Fairbanks. I couldn't find any indication he had made a commitment elsewhere...

Kyle Chatham is one of defensemen. 6'3" & 205 lbs. Played for the Green Bay Gamblers and then Powell River in the BCHL last season.

I heard from a contact in Estevan, who has seen Froese play many times and believes that he will be a 'great fit' for St. Norbert...Captain this season, a great two way player, finished 6th in league points..

I should have mentioned that Kyle Chatham's plans to play at St. Norbert are mentioned in this article about his brother Connor who is a potential NHL draft pick.

Re: 2014 Commitments

With Grant Gallo decommiting to Platty, that brings the Birds class to only 4 on the record and the goalie transfer from Quinny, anybody who thinks this is it would have to have their heads checked, whos got the inside track on the other Platty recruits I would say there are 3 or 4 more " in progress" to steal a phrase:D...what ya got Norm/PSU/Admiral/Birds?

You must of noticed that a lot of the top teams are keeping the recruit info close to the vest for good reason. I noticed that the recruiting process seems even more competitive now. The top team in the US SNC does the same thing. The middle of the pack teams seem to release the info along with the NESCAC's which are a special case because of there financial aid packages. I can see no reason for Plattsburgh to release now.

For the umpteenth time, NCAA teams and schools (which includes employees of the schools) do NOT release names. The only names that get out should be when the team a recruit left posts that info, or someone acquainted with the program hears that info second hand from another individual.

I don't think that any NESCAC officially releases the names of incoming recruits although word does get out due to the binding nature of the early decision application process..

Maybe some insider for former player can tell me but it seems some schools and coachers encourages there players to keep the info to themselves. In years past I recall some teams including Plattsburgh recruits got released by some fans whereas teams such as SNC and Norwich info never gets out.

Sure they do. Some, at least.

I can say from experience working with Webb to maintain the commitment list in the past, this is true. Some schools are more forthcoming than others. Ask if they can confirm one name, and they give you the whole list. One said "if you can tell me who told you about this one kid, I'll tell you our whole list." (Which wasn't a problem, since this public forum was my source for that name)

Other schools would say "no comment" or outright lie by saying "this player is not a hockey recruit" only to find out that he was, in fact, a hockey recruit. Again, I'm not going to say which school was which, but some schools were definitely willing to have their whole recruitment list published ahead of time.

Re: 2014 Commitments

It's interesting about the schools not releasing the names because the Junior teams all put out press releases. I've done simple google searches for 3 different school names and added the words "hockey commitment". In every case I've found from 1-3 recruits for each school that aren't on either of the D3 commitment lists I regularly look at.

some Jr leagues put all the recruits on the net,I am sure we will find many that are not listed, Oswego had a few show up and we knew nothing of them,1 was perhaps our best player.
