2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

Re: 2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

Miami should be 0-U-.T

Making the conference final game can not be overlooked. It is a slap in the face to the other teams who steadfastly maintained their mediocrity. They could throw the game and lose just to show off. Besides that Texan Coleman is way too skilled and his skates look like cowboy boots;)

Re: 2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

The NCHC should get two autobids - they're better than everyone else, so it stands to reason that their bottom two teams are also that much better at sucking. Selection committee logic! :D ;)

I agree. Miami tried to play their way out of this tournament.

Miami earned the automatic bid and belongs in this tournament. I hope they have a long. long run in this tournament for many seasons to come.

If Miami had won the tournament, then we could have instituted the Miami rule, by which the team with the BEST record that was defeated in the playoffs by a BFB autobid got a mandatory bid to this tournament, which is probably a fair punishment for spitting the bit in such spectacular fashion. Since I am assuming that these games will be played at suitably cooperative times (I'm figuring 2:15 AM on a Tuesday morning), St. Cloud could have easily taken part in both events, which again, is suitable reward for their playoff performance.

Alas, Miami lost, and as such should be duly rewarded with a 2:15 AM faceoff at whatever ice puddle in the back of the beyond has suitably bribed the selection committee to get the honor.

Miami should be out. Although that whole Preseason No. 1 business does carry some weight.

In terms of locations, I would suggest having a regional or Final up on that small sheet in Moscow, ID. I have been told by the person in charge of the rink that it will be expanded to a normal sheet size, soon. Which would lessen the appeal to this.

Also, the Joe Marmo/Wayne Lehto rink in Idaho Falls will end it's season this weekend, which mens they will melt the rink, and open the doors on the facility. Since this has both Michigan and Michigan Tech connections, the loss of ice should not pose a problem for the futile four. With the weather fianlly getting into the 50's and 60s in Idaho Falls, it's perfect for outdoor hockey. At least at this level.

Site selection for this year has already been completed.
That was on the other thread.
For those who weren't paying attention:

The selection committee has chosen the following sites for the 2014 BFB regionals and Futile Four:

NORTHEAST REGIONAL: John T Wright Arena, Englewood NJ
http://www.northjersey.com/news/anot...ewood-1.593679
Never repaired after Hurricane Sandy, and in New Jersey...PERFECT.

EAST REGIONAL: Iceland Sports Complex, Louisville KY
http://www.yelp.com/biz/iceland-spor...lex-louisville
Pictures look almost TOO nice, but the reviews are horrible.

MIDWEST REGIONAL: George Gipp Arena, Laurium MI
http://www.michigan.org/property/geo...age-ice-arena/
Prior experience with 2012 regional was complete disaster, plus its in the middle of absolute nowhere!

WEST REGIONAL: Rotary Centennial Ice Rink, Ashland OR
http://www.dailytidings.com/apps/pbc...WS02/311090301
They were close to getting a bid last year, but now they have a ROOF!

FUTILE FOUR: Benson Ice Arena, Omaha NE
http://www.omaha.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...131239972/1687
The place has been closed for several years, and soon to be demolished. Sounds like our kind of spot.

We will have the committee's IT specialist get to work on that as soon as she gets home from school. Bus usually gets here about 4pm.

OOPS! I have just been informed that she will be late this evening. Her Brownie troop has a field trip.

According to my limited understanding, the links to the various venues will open as they are.

Re: 2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

Gipp Arena should be even worse this season, with all the snow the UP had. ;)

We were SO excited that Gipp Arena bid on this year's event that we didn't even feel it necessary to send an advance team to inspect the facility. This venue fits the criteria so precisely that there was actually a motion before the committee two years ago to make it the permanent home of the Futile Four. That motion was defeated because of its close proximity to a certain school that has been a perennial bottom-feeder contender. This year was sort-of 'bad-news-good-news' for us. Bad news: MTU was never a serious contender this year...Good news: that makes Gipp a viable venue. We LOVE the idea of sending 4 unsuspecting teams and their fans off into the vast wild of the UP, as the possibility always exists that they may never be seen or heard from again. Snow, mud, dirt roads, pot-holes large enough to swallow a bus...what more could we ask for...our only regret is its too early in the season for mosquitos and those wonderful black flies.

I may depend upon the browser. I only get the first to open.

Miami should be in. Just so we can watch them overcome a 3-1 deficit in the final minute against BU to take the whole thing.
