2014-2015 Official USCHO T.O.P. Thread

Last year was a huge success. Lot's of votes. Will norm1909 repeat in 2014-2015 or will it be the year of the Chicken and an underdog who got left out last season take home the prize?

Members of the USCHO DIII Message Board Fan Forum nominate 68 fellow USCHO DIII Message Board members based on two things:

- Only DIII Men Fan Forum Members are allowed to be nominated

- Nominees must be registered at least 30 days prior to the start of the TOP

Once all 68 nominations have been filled, the D3TOP Committee then will look up the following for each member:
- Registration Date
- Total Posts
- Average Posts Per Day

All nominees will then be placed on a spreadsheet and are then ranked (1-68 with 1 being top) in each of the following criteria:
- Registration Date (10%)
- Total Posts (15%)
- Average Posts Per Day (25%)

The D3TOP Committee then submits their own personal ranking of 1-68 based on their own personal reasons. They can use the statistics given, but do not have to weight one criteria more then the other. Those FIVE rankings are then averaged together to get the posters Committee Rank. The Committee Rank then makes up 50% of the OVERALL Rank as seen below:
- Registration Date (10%)
- Total Posts (15%)
- Average Posts Per Day (25%)
- Committee Rank (50%)
= FISHRANK

Once the members FISHRANK is computed, the list of nominees is then sorted based off of their FISHRANK 1-68 with 1 being the #1 overall seed and #68 being the last overall seed. Going in order, the nominees are then placed into the 4 Regions by seed with no regard to matchups and or distance traveled. Once the Seedings are set, the Committee will then meet again to make any changes with in the specific seed numbers to create better matchups; meaning a 4 Seed in the "Region A" can move to the "4 Seed" in Region B to avoid or create matchups. HOWEVER a 4 Seed can not be made a 3 of 5 Seed.

Once the seeding is finished, the bracket is set for a single elimination 64 team (4 Play In games) Tournament and announced to the public Sunday May 10th during the D3TOP Selection Show, which may have some video and or some audio if things play out okay again.

#1 Seed will faceoff against the #16 Seed in a Monday-Saturday Online Poll where USCHO Members vote for their favorite based on whatever they feel. At the conclusion of the poll, the winner moves on, the loser goes home. We continue till we have a Champion. If there is a tie there is a one day (Sunday) Sudden DEATH (yes we still call it DEATH) poll that will determine the winner. If still tied, we flip a coin...because that's good enough to determine actual hockey standings....

We only run a maximum of 4 polls during the Monday-Saturday period and a full schedule will be posted on the "Selection Show" night.

What do you win? Nothing.

It just simply keeps things interesting here on the board during the summer months....

I think I covered everything, but any more questions let me know....

The DIII TOP is also taking applications for Regional Sites...

After Charleston's successful hosting of the South Region last year, the South Committee has decided to place an application to host this year in Savannah, GA.

The Savannah Civic Center / Martin Luther King Arena plays host to the Savannah Tire Hockey Classic each year, which brings together some of the most powerful and successful hockey programs in entire country (I couldn't even type that without laughing). Next year's event will bring Florida State University, University of Florida, University of South Carolina, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, and The Citadel. Could the field possibly be any better? When I think hockey, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina comes to mind first! The connection to DIII is unmistakble as well considering The Citadel and Norwich University are practically the same school! University of Georgia and Adrian College are both Bulldogs...coincidence? I think not!

More information here: http://savannahhockeyclassic.com/

Luckily, this event only takes place once a year, leaving plenty of room to host a DIII TOP Regional. I might remind you that last year's TOP Champion came from the Charleston Region too ;)
