2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Boston?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

I'll have more later, what a gut punch ending to such a fantastic season. It ended too soon, but that was one heck of a ride. Sad to see these seniors go, as they were the group that changed the culture and raised expectations to extremely high levels. We must be forever grateful for that. They'll hang two more banners and that is immortal; those don't come down. Proud of the Mavericks, really feel for the group in that locker room, and couldn't be happier with what the future holds for Maverick Hockey.

Congratulations on a fine season. You just ran into a hot goaltender.

The people saying it is a done deal are actually fans of other teams. The MSU folks aren't saying anything but we want to get this 0fer off our back, knowing how hard it is to win.

Well that makes two of us. Not a lot of fun tonight if you were a fan of the Crimson or MSU. Both teams had glorious chances in their respective games but came up short. Hurts to outplay a team and lose but if you don't bury your chances, you go home. I thought with all the power plays you guys had that it would be a matter of time before you started scoring goals. Oh well...

tUMD fans can feel your pain...and to lose on a goal where your goalie got taken out. Ouch.

Real blame lies with MavHockey14 who started this thread with the "count your chickens before they hatch" title. Shipping up to Boston? Dropkick that...;):D

Great season Mavs but I feel your pain after our early out in Fargo...Three seasons with Hastings and 3 NCAA tournament appearances. That is not something to scoff at. I don't see there being much dropoff for Mankato next year.

Man, people sure do like to pile on.

I'm not sure its piling on but it is indeed true. Outside of playing Michigan Tech in WCHA finals Minnesota State hasn't been tested in months. They played a weak Minnesota team and a solid Minn Duluth team and a solid Omaha team both early in the season. Other than that they were not tested.

And looking at one bad game to "prove" anything is silly. we lost, but it doesn't prove anything about msu or the league.

No, certainly not like the ECAC teams were tested in their conference, which explains their fine performance this weekend.

Hey, we laid an egg at the worst possible time. There's no sugarcoating that. That doesn't prove the WCHA was weak, or we were unworthy. This one stings, because we know how good a team that was that lost Saturday afternoon. But the WCHA's out-of-conference record was above .500 this year, with not a lot of home games to show for it. The travel alone makes the conference season a good test. Would the narrative really change on the conferences if Tech had hit the open net, or we had won our game? If it would, that's a pretty fine line to use to make such sweeping pronouncements about our conference.

But since this is our season thread, let me say that I'm extremely proud of these guys, and the way they played this season. For me, this stuff is a little bit different than it is for a lot of you. I live about 3 hours from Mankato. I have season tickets and attend all the home games (and a few roadies) in large part to see my daughter, an MSU student. Maverick hockey games are sort of our "daddy-daughter thing," which means for me, just getting to the rink and seeing her is a victory. The rest is gravy. And these last 3 years, it has been a lot of really good gravy! To sit in the VWC with her and discuss the game, the players, the opponents, what's going on in her classes, etc., and enjoy some quality WCHA hockey is about the best thing I do all year. Nothing can diminish that, not even the worst game I've seen us play this year, which unfortunately came on the biggest stage of the year.

I hope we get back to the NCAAs next year, and figure out how to get at least a couple of goals and a win. But until then, thank you Coach Hastings and the Mavs for a great year!

Congrats to zach palmquist in signing with the wild today. I'm sure it's bittersweet for him, but good for him.
