A&M defender gets a targeting call 4 minutes in.

This one could be fun. Refs threw the wrong guy out. :D

Yeah, and it was a lot better when it actually meant something to make the playoffs. You actually had to be, you know, good.

I just fail to see what good a playoff does when you don't even include teams that win their conference. Every other tournament out there gives an automatic bid to conference/division winners, including professional leagues. There's no reason the playoff can't be at least 10 or 12 and include every conference.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

Because the season is long as it is. We don't need five more weeks on top of that.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

The playoff doesn't have to start January 1st. A 12 team playoff would have one round of play-in games, then the quarter finals, and then we're right back to this year's system. All you'd have to do is start the playoff two weeks before that, which I'm pretty sure bowl season already does.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

I just don't buy that the best team will be outside the top 4-5

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

No play in games.

16 teams. All of the conference winners and the rest wildcards. Seed it 1-16. If a wildcard gets to host, so be it.

Start at campus sites in early December and play two weeks to get down to 4 teams. Take a week off at Christmas and then finish with semis on NYD at neutral sites and the title game a week later.

Something like this will happen eventually. The current bowl model will only continue to bleed out.

The ratings for a true national tourney would be off the charts.

Not sure if lesser bowls would still exist for teams outside of the 16 or not - nor would I care.

PS: Oh yeah - reseed after the first round.
