Saw that. I assume we repaid them in Michigan potatoes.

They would be turned away at the border. Everyone knows how superior Idaho potatos are... :p

But it was amazing to see the posts that escalated that REALLY fast, when the AD's both tried to keep it really quiet.

Pretty excited to see if Bill Snyder can work some magic against Auburn tonight.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

I'm wondering how it got put on the Thursday night slot. It's probably the 2nd best game of the week.

I would love it, but K-State has a long and storied history of crapping the bed in games like this.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

So the second best game this week is between a team that was in the National Championship game last year, and a team that lost to NDSU last year? ;)

At first I figured it was because it would be on Fox Sports 1, but now I don't know. ESPN usually gets some good games on Thursdays from time to time though.

Still a lot of good games Saturday..really like the Mississippi State/LSU game..

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

Now we get to hear about how great the SEC is even though K-State threw away every opportunity.

Who beat Iowa. (not trying to rub it in, just trashing the big ten)

The Big Ten is terrible. The Big 12 and ACC save three or four teams are terrible as well. Hell the Pac-12 isn't as deep as I thought. Just not a great year overall for anyone, and a fairly standard year for the SEC.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

I'm not really sure how the ACC gets away from the terrible conference talk.

They have

Tier 1: FSU
Tier 2: Clemson
Tier 3 and below: Everyone else.

Not saying the Big Ten is better, but if FSU makes the ACC so much better, why can't MSU make the Big Ten so much better? And what is with Clemson always getting hype? They've never followed through on any expectations, yet year after year they're somehow back in the Top 10/15.

Florida State, without Winston for a half, will destory Clemson Saturday and they'll be back to irrelevancy.

The Big 12 isn't exactly blowing up the Power Five conference games, either. I think they have four total wins? (Tenn, Iowa, Maryland, and Minnesota) Losses to FSU, BYU, UCLA, Duke, Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, are decent lossess, but they're win list is less than impressive.

The ACC has had the top end talent to win national titles in the last 35 or so years that the B1G hasn't. Florida State has 3 titles, Clemson has 1, and Georgia Tech has a split title. The B1G has a split title from Michigan and a controversial title from Ohio State. It's not much, but 4.5 > 1.5. The reason why MSU doesn't make the B1G so much better is because they have 0 national titles in most Americans' lifetime.

Clemson hasn't been in the Top 10/15 year after year. They were a powerhouse in the late 70s and throughout much of the 80s . That is when they were in the top 10/15 year after year (They finished in the top 15 of the AP final poll 8 times from 1978-1990...then not again until 2012). Only in the last 3 years or so have they been back in the top 10/15, and they have proven it. They've beaten Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Florida State, and Ohio State (amongst others). They haven't been able to solve USC, but the Gamecocks have also been a top 10/15 team each of those years as well (and 2 of those 3 games were in Columbia). I would put Clemson and Michigan State at about the same level/tier.

For this season perhaps (although the Tigers will still likely win 9-10 games and make the Orange Bowl...if you want to call that irrelevant). Clemson has a monster recruiting class coming in next season. They are going nowhere for the time being.
