Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

Exactly. I haven't seen one person defend what Sandusky did.
If they want to worship Paterno, honestly who cares.
But apparently, unless they all denounce Penn State and all the students and faculty leave, they condone rape.
So do all Vikings fans condone child abuse if they don't condemn the Vikings?
Are all Ravens fans in support of spousal abuse if they still cheer for their team?
No one involved in it is still there but apparently just being associated with Penn State means you support child rape.

Jump to hysterics much?

No, but give Peterson a standing-O on Sunday like idiot Ravens fans did for Rice and you might as well be.

March down the street to demand honor for a guy who knowingly allowed children to be raped so as to protect his football program and you can just endure the Pedo State t-shirts and **** off. (speaking of Penn State fan, not you of course)

I'm not hysterical about anything.
I'm just saying I understand those who want to defend someone who was a hero to them...for generations of them.
It's genuinely hard to wrap your head around the fact that a hero can do something wrong, especially the level of wrong that happened here.
It's bad enough that anyone who goes there will likely be whispered about as "he/she went to Penn State" as though they are somehow guilty of a crime by attending the school.
Rutgers went too far, especially with the banner IMO, they don't need to be ridiculed for it, especially when, as I said before, the fans, players and current coaching staff did not commit a crime and did not condone rape. (Sorry, chanting for Paterno is not condoning rape to me)

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

PSU should consider itself lucky that it didn't get the boot from our watered down conference for what they allowed to happen. The fans will just have to put up with the fact that people won't forget it any time soon. Even Todd Bertuzzi supporters in Vancouver would be embarrassed by the way the PSU (and quite frankly, their community) responded to that mess.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

Paterno was a hero to me.

But you forfeit your right to be called a hero by any definition if you cover up child rape.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

Gary Patterson is a new hero.

[TCU’s Gary] Patterson on his offense’s progress: "I have no idea. We played Samford and then played a Big Ten team."

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

So what kids did the players, current coaching staff and fans rape?
ONE man raped kids and a half dozen or so others covered it up.
The whole school did not do this.
Blame who was responsible.
You argued this a few years ago. You were wrong then, you're just as wrong now.

So the hero status of winning a bunch of games, of which they are just entertianment for the people watching and annoiting this hero status, all of that trumps covering up an actual crime?

Maybe not condoning rape, but certainly forgetting it.

Yea, I think we need to re-think our position on sport.

I think the same based of fan's reaction to Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson. We see that being entertained watching a game is more important than physical crimes against women and chidren.

IMHO, the Rutgers fans WERE thinking of the children. Ironic that Penn State fans think they were not.

As for Adrian, which is the hot topic now around here, I don't see alot of people standing up for him, or the Vikings. I'm sure there are some idiots out there, and they're probably posting a bunch of stupid stuff on message boards and twitter. All of the Vikings fans I know, or have seen comments from have comments condemning Adrian.

Yet that ESPN poll yesterday showed about 2/3 of people supported the Vikings decision to reinstate AP. So apparently there are a lot more idiots out there then we thought.

I am glad I don't have any of them in my circle of friends, or posting on my facebook feed.

In the full context it's not nearly as bad as that sounds, but at this point, it doesn't matter because the B1G is a flaming pile of poo.

That was a SportsNation poll...way more than 2/3 of their viewers are idiots.

Re: 2014-2015 College Football Thread: A New Era Begins..

Who here is defending Paterno or AP? My point was just because some PSU fans are idiots it doesn't mean all of them are and I don't think they should be punished in perpetuity just because Sandusky and JoePa were scumbags.

I'll never cheer for AP again, but if some other idiot does I have to be lumped in with them?

I think if some of you sit back and take in what is being said you might agree there's no hysteria except from those extrapolating these points to a place they don't belong.

I don't think anyone said that. I certainly didn't. I don't expect anyone to stop being a Vikings or Ravens or PSU fan. Team before individual player - always.

FTLT was saying that cheering for the team would lump you in as supporting the crime that the player committed. That's hysterics and a pretty big leap and I don't know anyone who has said that.

I didn't stop being a Brewer fan because Braun cheated, but I certainly wouldn't have been one of the fools giving him a standing ovation during his first game back.

And he didn't do anything close to what Rice did before Ravens fan cheered for him or what Paterno did before the idiot rabble marched and demonstrated on his behalf.

It is being said and people are doing that though.
To me, proof of that is the banner at the Rutgers game.
There is no one left at Penn State who was involved, yet Pedo state shirts and that banner are made.
You are going to tell me that those actions are not lumping all at Penn State As somehow "supporting" what happened because they cheer for the team?

It's simply trying to get under their skin - and it worked. Kinda like the deer and thinner stuff. I don't know any deer shaggers or thinner drinkers, but it's our cross to bear.

Hey, I agree that the Pedo t-shirts and banners are pretty low on the taste scale. Personally, I wouldn't do it. Fans gonna be fans though.

The good thing that can come out of this is that maybe, just maybe, the next head coach in this situation will realize that a little short term pain and DOING THE RIGHT THING is better than the cover up and long term pain. Doubtful, but just maybe.

Fair enough.

Plus, it seems to be more effective to just ignore the lowball taste jokes if you want them to go away. Unless you want a way for other people to irritate you.

If you are the "bigger" people, be that way. Just ignore them. Easy solution.

Nobody will be talking about it on interent forums.
