2013 USA Hockey Girls Player Development Camp 16/17

Re: 2013 USA Hockey Girls Player Development Camp 16/17

So my kid received a letter stating she has been selected as an "at-large" player for National Camp and a decision will be made following a teleconference if she gets to attend. How ofter do these at large postitions get to attend national camp or is it just a feel good letter? My kid is a goalie so this probably complicates selection.

Well if you kid a 96 or 97 then the only goalie selections are at-large selections. If younger, chances are slim becaue there aren't that many spots (see the first post which lists how many at-large selections are out there). Bottom line if your D is a strong player, she has a shot (helps to come from a strong district I believe where lots of strong kids are competing for few spots).

Re: 2013 USA Hockey Girls Player Development Camp 16/17

This year they are combining the 96's and 97's into mixed birth year teams. In the past they've gone w/ 4 teams of 17 yr olds and 6 teams of 16 yr olds. This year will have 10 teams of mixed birth years. The division will be known as the U18 division.

Received the same and essentially it means you are on the short list incase someone chooses not to attend for some reason. Partly this also varies on how many each state has to give out. Often there is a battle, one state getting one or having to give up one. All behind the curtain, choices made based on whatever reason. Good luck to her

Curious is it common that the same girls would be selected 4 years in a row? Michigan does not openly post who does get selected. Reason given is parents get upset. Guess only Michigan parents get upset. FYI no daughter fighting in this selection so no axe to grind

You were just curious who got selected and you happen to know it's 4 years running for those 4 girls? I mean since it's not openly posted.........HMMMMMMMMM.

In MA and NE districts, the 17 group generally consists of players that have been selected in at least 2 of the previous years. That being said, the MA 17 group this year has 2 complete newbies - but that is really uncommon based on the last 5 years or so. More generally, if the girls who are selected continue to get positive evaluations, they will likely continue to be selected. It's when the evaluations go south that they are likely to not return. U17 is where you lose some kids who performed well in previous 3 years but there just wasn't enough room for them (fewer number of slots).

MA and NE openly post their selections (not the at larges though) and you can look back at previous years if you are so inclined. Mass and NE parents get upset just as much (or more) than other parents. At some point Mass Hockey just decided that it made more sense to get it all out there than conceal them and let it filter through via gossip. Don't know why Michigan hides their selections - just makes the kids/parents who don't get selected even angrier....

It does say that the players were selected 4 years in a row. That's how this person knew. He or she was asking if it was common for every girl to make it to National Camp 4 years in a row. The answer is no. There is on average 50% turnover from 14's to 17's. not sure if some districts do this on purpose, but those are the facts. My kid has made it both years at 14's and 15's and she knows it's never a lock to get in. Not sure why you were HMMMMMMM'ing either. Read all the thread before you make accusations. It's kind of obnoxious. Some of us use this site for information, not to start up with someone.

You read the entire post right? At the bottom it stated 4 years in a row. Missing something?
