Re: 2013 NFL Season. Tebow on the Brady Bunch(en)? Goodell will to all men!

Is there anything that isn't a giant massive slight on everything boston for you? Sean Thornton's suspension = hating Boston; James Neal suspension = hating Boston. Someone other than a Boston athlete getting Sportsman of Year = hating Boston.

This is why so many people hate fans of Boston teams. All they do is ***** and moan about getting screwed over.

Ortiz was the obvious choice but I wouldn't have minded seeing it go to Mariano Rivera (3rd in voting, apparently) to salute a brilliant career and a remarkable comeback from a devastating injury to leave the game on his own terms. But Peyton sells more magazines somehow, so they went with him. I really don't care who SI picks, but the Papa Johns line killed on twitter so I thought I'd bring it here. Obviously not. :)

If Ortiz was the obvious choice he would have won. :p

I'm a Boston fan, so for me it really is about hating Peyton, and his other brother Daryll, more than just wanting every award to go to a Boston guy.

But, I still don't get why he is sportsman of the year. He has had 3 good months this year, complete with his usual choking in big situations. Yeah, he completed a lot of passes but I don't see how that qualifies for sportsman of the year. I would have said Ortiz or Rivera were more likely because what they did was bigger than just one year of stats.

By my biased, unofficial view if you don't count Baltimore, the mules have played 6 games against 'good' teams and lost 3.

They could give it to plenty of people, I don't see how what he has done is that tremendous.

Some other names that even and unbiased person would support: Tom Brady, Mike Napoli, the Pats long-snapper, Rajon Rondo, #4 for the prefessional lacrosse team in Boston, any member of the Boston professinoal women's soccer team, the second baseman for the Pawsox...all more qualified, no matter where you live.

If SI was more worried about honoring people than the number of magazines they could sell, he would have. It does say something about the oversaturation of the market that they chose a football player over either a Red Sox or Yankees player.

Peyton Manning won for his returning to pro bowl caliber form after an injury where many thought he might never be able to play football again.

Whereas Rivera was a miserable failure after his injury.

He is on pace to break some major records including Brady's single season passing record. I'd call that tremendous. Also, if you had listed some non-Boston athletes, maybe you would have made a better point.

On a further note, it is an arbitrary, meaningless award. Who gives a crap who they call their sportsman of the year? I mean come on, they have given it to McGwire, Sosa and Lance Armstrong in the past. Tiger Woods has won it twice. If we are going to be mad we should be mad that is hasn't even gone to a hockey player since 1982 (Gretzky)

Just by playing for a team in Boston they automatically pass everyone for Sportsman of the Year. It makes Peyton's win even more impressive considering he had to beat out a 3rd grader from Mather Elementary School.

When did the Lions get Romo?

Re: 2013 NFL Season. Tebow on the Brady Bunch(en)? Goodell will to all men!

no, gurt, it's the same old lions. We've been doing this for the last 56 years.

IF YOU WOULD'VE JUST KEPT BOBBY LAYNE!!!

Though it did look like Stafford was supposed to bring greatness back with all the similarities he had to Lane.

Thank God the Lions crapped the bed. That basically put me in my fantasy football title game.

You're right, ...it should go to a hockey player!!! Like Chara or Raask or Lucic or Bergeron, or Marchand.

Don't let the absence of a sarcasm smilie lead you astray...I really don't think the 2nd baseman for the Pawsox should have won sportsman of the year....top 3 maybe, but not win.

Like I said, I'm biased, but I don't think breaking Brady's record, by itself, qualifies as sportsman of the year.

Here is my alternate ending theory: Manning's agent informed them this is likely Manning's last year and he will retire at the end of the season...so, the award is a nod to him never having won it and having a great career...despite the massive chokes (sorry, can't help it)

Tony Romo chose the wrong Manning brother to be his role model.
