2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Who knows what they're going to do at first base? Resign Hart and his two bad knees? Hope Gamel doesn't tear his ACL again? Francisco can't really seem to hit a beach ball right now. Yuni B is Yuni B. Lucroy's been okay but that means Maldonado and his terrible hitting in the lineup. Halton doesn't seem like much. Hunter Morris hit a lot of homers in AA, but hit .247 and he's not currently on the 40 man roster which suggests the Brewers would be okay if someone took him off their hands.

At 2nd, I'm okay with a strict R/L platoon with Weeks and Scooter. That way, Rickie can't swing at all those sliders that land in the other batter's box. At least I don't think he can.

I hadn't followed Morris and am disappointed to hear he didn't have a good year. Francisco is horrible defensively and not a good enough hitter to cover for it. Yuni is Yuni, but a defensive upgrde from Francisco, which isn't saying much. Neither of them should be everyday players. Hart and Gamel are hurt too **** much. I think they could acquire someone decent without overspending if Khris Davis really can't play first, but I'd rather they spent the money on pitching.

I'm interested to see what Scooter does over the course of a season. Rickie just hasn't been the same since his ankle injury in 2011.

Brewers could be a big help to the Pirates this weekend.

We have 6 games left against St Louis. I predict 1-5 (I know, I'm feeling charitable). We may fare slightly better against Cincinnati. So I hope the Pirates are ready to help themselves. :p

Next year's schedule is out, and the Yankees visit May 9-11. I have been waiting since 2008 for CC to return. Hopefully he'll pitch here.

They open at home on March 31 vs Atlanta. Season closes with a slew of division games.

Interleague road trips: Toronto, Tampa, Boston
Other interleague home series: Baltimore, MN, Toronto

Carlos Gomez. Again. in case you missed it.

Nothing like a good walkoff suicide squeeze. :) And with the bases loaded, no less.

I must say that I've been rather impressed with the Brewers' pitching performances of late. Estrada has been great. Peralta pretty good too. Thornburg has been not bad lately. Gallardo has been better then earlier in the season. Lohse always keeps us in games. They'd better be careful or there going to get my hopes up for next year! :o

Obviously losing isn't a good thing.. but it's kind of fun watching the kids battle for spots for next year. I agree the starting pitching has been pretty good lately. Nice outing by Thornburg last night (finally more than 6!)

Just saw that Peralta is done and Jimmy Nelson will start in his spot on Saturday.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Nice outing by Estrada again to finish the season. It's too bad the infield defense turned into a circus in the 8th inning. Side note: CB Bucknor is the worst umpire in baseball. It is not even close. I'm modestly optimistic about next season. If these young pitchers can start off like they finished, we should be in decent shape. Of course, that is what was supposed to happen this year, so who knows. Braun will be back, hopefully he still has some muscle mass and doesn't turn into JJ "I can barely get it out of the infield" Hardy. Hopefully Gomez can do something near to this year's 24HR, 40SB effort. Aramis can't be more injured, right?

Interesting note: Brewers were over .500 post-suspension (33-32)

Other note: Cubs fire Sveum

Brewers were also above .500 outside of May (6-22), with a 68-66 record.

Doug Melvin's post season press conference. They're looking at Hart, Gamel and Francisco (ugh) to play first. They'll decide second base in Spring Training, but Scooter is looking good, and they're thinking about moving Braun to right field to make room for Davis, but they haven't asked him. I would think he'd be amenable to whatever the team wants right now. :p

I like Hart and wouldn't mind seeing him come back, but not sure what he'll have left at his age coming off 2 knee surgeries. Gamel's younger, but he can't stay healthy. Francisco...ugh again. I don't get the fascination with Davis. He seems like just another Halton/Gindl/whomever to me so far. Plus we still have Aoki who hits LHP very well so a platoon wouldn't make sense in either OF spot. Maybe a platoon for 2B though?

RE: Braun to Right
Where does that leave Aoki?

RE: Braun to Right

I wondered this in my post as well.

vs LHP / RHP
Davis: .244 / .297
Aoki: .339 / .264

Maybe Aoki vs LHP, Davis vs RHP. An "opposite" platoon to what you normally see?

Aoki could be trade bait. He's pretty cheap, but do they really want to start Davis instead of him? I would be interested to see what Davis does after he's struggled a little bit.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Cubs picked up Gamel.

JSOnline had their Brewers' player grades for the season. Several D minuses (and several A minuses), but only one F. I'm not sure I've seen an F before, but it's well-deserved.

Gomez wins the Gold Glove, first for a Brewer since Yount as SS in 1982.
