2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

Re: 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

Same match-ups as last year.

3:30 UM-MSU on FSD+
7:00 WMU-MTU on FSD.com

Beaut of a goal for the winner by the Broncos.

It helped that the Michigan penalty-killers went into the always effective "stand there with your balls in your hands" defense and let him skate right through them like they were pylons. Good grief. They could have given him some rope so that he could have made a complete loop around each one of them, then he could have gone and roped the calf in record time.

Anyone go? How many people were there? They made sure to not show the crowd outside of the bands, and I think there was maybe one overhead shot.

I saw derisive Tweets on Twitter tonight about how FOX Sports Detroit named Michigan and Michigan State players as the "Player of the Game" for their respective games, despite the fact that neither of those teams is playing in the final.

they also announce those things when games arent decided yet...its stupid but not all that surprising since both games were tied and went to OT.

25499 was the announced attendance.

Sipple's article in the Free Press said about 4000 for the first game, slightly more for the second, but that people were milling about the concourses. I think his 4000 may have been overly generous. If the message that these outdoor games have jumped the shark has not yet been received by those planning most of them, it never will be. These are the kinds of games that SHOULD be considered if we insist on playing these gimmick games. The weather was perfect for a late December day, yet fewer people show up than what we'd have seen at the Joe in a normal year. Let the NHL do it once a year and the rest of us play our games where they should be played, indoors in real hockey arenas.

There was a lot more than 4000. I would guess 6 or 7. however many were spread out all over. I was up in the upper deck and it looked pretty empty, but once you went to go outside or to the bathroom it was crowded. After the first game pretty much everyone left. I think the 25000 was the ticket sales, not including the walk up, (which I was one of.)
the fan fest was totally packed.

Now I know what was experienced with the Bowling Green series.
Tech had a million chances and only put 2 in.

I expect some surprises with the lineup today.

The big difference here is that this is a 4 game tournament. That is complete overkill. Single game events are getting beaten to death and now they try a whole tournament? Just not well thought out.

Puck drop moved to 4:25 due to ice conditions.

Yayyyyyyyyyyy outdoor games!

Re: 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

All big ten consolation...again!

Re: 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

Anyone hear Matt Berry on the pregame? He was asked about playing their (michigan states) biggest rival in an outdoor game and Berry stated that it makes everything "more better".

Can't read!!!!

Can't write!!!

MSU takes bronze. If the trend holds true WMU should win tonight.
