2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

Re: 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

It's tough for me to feel bad for people who get into every sporting event for free. I don't feel bad for bloggers who write a crappy blog just to get into the games for free.

Whoa! Bloggers? or honest, schooled and credentialed media? Soak the bloggers for all they're worth ... they're not writing anything that has to conform to ethical standards anyway. Shoot, I could start a whole OT thread on this :D.

Tech will be in their beautiful gold 3rds which are one of the best in college hockey.

GLI alternates announced today. I like the cream color and single color cresting but using the modern "Edge" cut detracts from the vintage theme. MSU throwback jerseys don't really look to retro to me. I'll be interested to see what the other teams will be wearing. I'm guessing Tech will still have to pack the golds and/or blacks not knowing who they will play the second game, unless Tech as the host picks their jersey color for both games and stays retro.

I'm home for Christmas and I think I'll mosey on down.

How are ticket sales doing?

Tech is always the home team, they can just bring the one jersey.

I know, it's not like bloggers go to practices, talk to coaches, go to pressers... or hang out with bonafide writers. Yeesh. :p

Everyone of them except you, of course :D.

Naturally, most (daily) beat writers these days are asked to tweet on top of writing on deadline. If the game has a late start-time, these cats also have to have about three or more versions of a lead, premise, structure etc. written ahead of time. Not an easy job really to put it all together at crunch time. Give 'em a break!

Our daily writers are outstanding and I lean on them heavily, especially on twitter. Most on the hockey beat are freshmen and sophomores that have a senior editor over their group. They eventually get elevated to basketball and football coverage. I am proud to call many of them friends and some have moved on to positions in the media. It's great seeing their careers blossom in front of you.

I'm pretty pumped to be heading back up to Michigan to watch the Spartans this weekend. Only attending on Saturday, but wow look at the weather. 38 and sunny, absolutely glorious weather for the games and I'll be sitting 5 rows behind the dugout. Being swept by both WMU and MT isn't good but they'll get it together here and maybe win two

I see 4 really tight games ahead.
Curious how bad the ice will be on Saturday's championship as sometimes it does not hold up for 1 game much less 4 games back to back.

Anyone heard if D. Johnstone will be back from injury for the GLI.

Tech is taking in the Winter classic after the GLI and then heading to the Sault for their next series with the Lakers.
Hope the trophy is with them for the ride back up north.

Anyone know if the GLI team practices on the 26th are open to the public at Comerica?

Re: 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

I thought Motte got cut due to injury. He's too hurt for USA but ready to go for Michigan?

Re: 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

Motte also had an injury that kept him from playing.
Playing at GLI is a wait and see.
I would bet he plays if able.

Re: 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

For those without FS Detroit, it looks like the Friday games are on FCS Atlantic and Saturday games are on FCS Pacific with the 3rd place game being live and championship is on tape delay. I think the championship is on tape delay for FS Detroit too.

Re: 2013 Great Lakes Invitational, One like no other as part of the Winter Festival

tDon said that the tournament is "for men only". I hope Tyler Motte remembers that against Minnesota.

No description of this "injury" to Motte, although it makes sense that there is something since he wasn't in the lineup for the exhibitions. Or it's b.s. Either way, I know that flying back from Sweden the day before the GLI isn't ideal for playing. It sucks, period.
