2013 Cycling Thread

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I threw up a team. I will need to adjust as soon as I get the time.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Here's my team may adjust but like the Vuelta when in doubt I pick the hometown boys though I did pick Wiggo cause I suspect he will win.

Ivan Basso CAN 10
Bradley Wiggins SKY 26
Michele Scarponi LAM 14
Dario Cataldo SKY 6
John Degenkolb ARG 12
Fredrik Kessiakoff AST 8
George Bennett RLT 4
Filippo Pozzato LAM 8
Matthew Goss OGE 12

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I can't root for the Skyborgs so no Wiggo for me. (Interestingly I read this morning the if he wins the Giro he will claim leadership at the Tour, which Froome had denied, so that could be a little Lemond/Hinault.

As a quasi-tangent, a Skybot rivalry might make good fodder for the fans and media but I don't think it will mean much on the road since I don't think Sir Wiggo has much of a chance of keeping up with The Alien in the TDF. It just ain't happening. I'd get into why but I promised I'd do my best to not talk about things like AICAR and it's associated derivatives here.

Throw in the recent developments that you reference as well as Froome's old lady running her trap on twitter again (can't believe someone didn't muzzle her after the GW501516 comments - that like so many others were later deleted), and I'm not sure Wiggins is going to care enough at this point. Which matters for him considering his personality.

Pair those up with the fact I actually scoped out the route in detail today...and I had to drop him. Just a bad feeling overall. Only logical replacement was Nibbles, who freed up four points. Despite adding Santambrogio, who was a guy I wanted in the first place but couldn't manage two extra points for, I assure Titlelist I'm doing this for my own reasons and not because of anything he said :).

I still have two points free so this is subject to change. Pirazzi is the guy I'm looking to dump but can't figure out for who. I've considered Degenkolb over Cav from the beginning which would kick another four points free, but I suspect I'll end up sticking with Frodo. Dropped Kelderman as it seems Blanco is insisting Gesink is a podium contender. Which is a joke, but it won't stop them from racing as such which means Kelderman becomes useless. This also keeps me away from my habit of picking a guy a year or two too early. See: QUINTANA, Nairo.

Vincenzo Nibali AST 22
Ryder Hesjedal GRS 20
Rafal Majka TST 8
Stefano Pirazzi BAR 6
Mark Cavendish OPQ 16
Yury Trofimov KAT 8
Maxim Belkov KAT 4
Mauro Santambrogio VIN 6
Juan Jose Cobo MOV 8

Fyi - basso has withdrawn. Apparently has a cyst somewhere or something.

My guess is cyst=horrible form.

For the Sky thing, I'm sure that Wiggo comes out to crush the Giro, I don't think his ego would allow anything else. If (when?) he wins then that sets up the battle at the Tour. I agree Froome wins between them but hopefully Conti had figured out how to ride by then and beats both. Regardless, XYZ, you're right about Froome's GF, Cournd or whatever her name is, someone needed to make her step away from the Twitter feed, she is not helping anything right now.

Yeah, @michellecound. I tried to get blocked by her to amuse myself but my attempts have thus far proven unsuccessful. I really do find it surprising that no one has told her to pipe it. With all the suspicions around Sky, and Froome in particular, she certainly isn't doing anything to make them go away. She's more like a walking, talking gas can.

Also, pretty sure my team is finalized. Same as the last one I posted save for replacing Belkov with Anthony Roux. I knew I could get the FDJ homer pick involved somehow!

But her unintentional comedy for the rest of us is priceless! I like the idea of her having free reign to speak her mind. At least until I am no longer amused by it. :D

I get USN strictly for cycling and it doesn't appear its covering the Giro this year. As further google searches haven't helped me much, anyone know where I can watch this thing?

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I hope someone has archived coverage, or beIn has an evening show as well, cause there's this thing called work preventing me from seeing any stages streamed live, except for Sunday.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

rufus, I know what you mean. Not sure exactly about the options there though I think beIn is running at least a highlight show. Failing that, this site: http://www.dailymotion.com/cyclingvids#video=xqfspr usually has fairly long highlight packages (like 20 minutes + for big races). For example, if you scroll down, there are 3 15 minutes packages for the 4 Days for Dunkerque.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Don't know who's any good these days, or who's been on form and winning races, and who hasn't, but here's my team.

Ryder Hesjedal GRS 20
Vincenzo Nibali AST 22
Franco Pellizotti AND 10
Rigoberto Uran SKY 10
Mark Cavendish OPQ 16
Fredrik Kessiakoff AST 8
Jackson Rodriguez AND 6
Darwin Atapuma COL 4
Francesco Manuel Bongiorno BAR 4

Universal Sports used to have it but it disappeared from my cable system about the time Versus became NBC sports unfortunately since I am at work I can't watch it online.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

My revised squad don't really like it but I didn't want to reach to get Geesink since every time I pick him he crashes out, so he's certain to finish on the podium. I don't understand why he categorizes Scarponi as a climber in the Tour or Vuelta yeah but the Giro?

Juan Jose Cobo MOV 8
Bradley Wiggins SKY 26
Michele Scarponi LAM 14
Tiago Machado RLT 8
John Degenkolb ARG 12
Fredrik Kessiakoff AST 8
George Bennett RLT 4
Filippo Pozzato LAM 8
Matthew Goss OGE 12

One of the links someone posted earlier was one I had already looked at and missed the important part. Its on BeIN in the US, which now comes with the sports pack on DirecTV, so I'm all set. I believe it's channel 620. No idea which other carriers might have that network...

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Il Killer di Spoltore has raced twice this year, both last weekend. In the first he was a beast riding for Santabrogio and still had enough to come 10th. Then in an Italian sprinter classic he finished 6th I think. In short he is riding very well for someone who was without a team until last weekend.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

Quick look at the beIn schedule has stage 1 live at 9:45AM tomorrow, with a half hour highlights show at 6:15PM. Stage 2 is at 11:30AM Sunday, doesn't appear to be live.

Guess I'll have to get programming the DVR.

As for DiLuca, I thought he was dead,.

Re: 2013 Cycling Thread

I have 10 channels that play soccer I can watch cricket and rugby but no cycling other than what they show on NBC sports. Looks like if I am willing to pay $9.95 for the month I can watch it on Rai TV on my cable's Italian package, I'm guessing it won't be in English which looks to have 2 hours of coverage a day.
