2013 Alaska Governors Cup - Next year we play for keeps

Re: 2013 Alaska Governors Cup - Next year we play for keeps

That was easily, very easily, the most embarrassing performance by a UAA team ever. Ever. It didn't even look like they were on the ice for most of that game. I mean you allow your biggest rival to come in and run you over like that? UAA didn't even try that whole game. I mean 9 seconds in? 9 freakin' seconds! It's like they never even came out to play. All those players should be ashamed of themselves. They do not deserve to wear a UAA jersey again after a performance like that. What an embarrassment to the University and this community.

How could YOU possibly be embarrassed by any UAA loss? Here's you first post in this thread:

... we are terrible. Nanooks sweep.
Shall I go back to every weekly thread this season and post a nearly identical statement from you? If I was your brother I'd be embarrassed. By you.

I made an accurate prediction, so what? I expected at least some fight out of the team, and that didn't happen. It was embarrassing to watch the team just rollover. But you wouldn't know that, considering you weren't there.

Re: 2013 Alaska Governors Cup - Next year we play for keeps

You've been nothing but a miserable piece of crap towards this team all year long. Not a single player on that squad deserves any of the bs you've thrown their way. Each and every one of them has given it their best efforts for the majority of the time. Sure ... like any squad they've stunk it up here and there. But largely they've given it an honest effort and for you to week after week come onto a public forum and denigrate them in a nearly personal manner as you have is beyond ridiculous.

You really need to take a step back and consider whether you are capable of being a sports fan at this level. I'd suggest that you would be better off just sticking to professional sports where the athletes that you'd crap on are at least getting paid and are accountable for wins and losses. At this level of competition that just isn't the case.

It's surprising to me that since every player on that team knows exactly what you look like that you'd have the unmitigated temerity to post that sort of nonsense. Is this Seawolves team's one of the least successful that we've ever seen? They sure are, but regardless of that not a single player on the squad deserves even a percentage of the negativity and derision that you've consistently thrown at them. You sound exactly like the twat fans of other teams on this board who think that they have some right to bash amateur athletes at their schools for underperforming to their expectations. I'm sure that's what you're going for ... I guess it makes you feel like one of them and gains you acceptance and back pats from them. Well goody for you. I'm happy you found someplace to fit in. Too bad it's at the public expense of some pretty fine young men who are toiling without success on the ice while getting an education. Every single one of them will ultimately be more successful in life (by any standard one can use) than you. At least they can move on knowing that.

For the record, as I know you barely work, you should be the last person to judge what an "honest effort" is.

There's nothing wrong with calling out what has been a terrible effort this season. And if you had actually been at a game you would've known that.

As for the rest of you rambling:

Re: 2013 Alaska Governors Cup - Next year we play for keeps

And for the record, most of the players are being given a scholarship from the University. They are, in effect, being paid. Being paid from funds that come out of a University budget that's paid for, in part, by donations from people and the tuition from other students. So it's completely reasonable to have expectations of the players.

What is that supposed to mean? LOL. I don't know what you think you know ... but you should probably get better information. And even if I hadn't worked a day in my life it wouldn't mean a thing with regard to you trashing the team week in and week out. Too funny. I shouldn't be surprised at the vacuousness though.

You clearly (as I've already made abundantly clear) don't know the difference between losing because you played better teams and losing because you didn't try.

And if you had actually been at a game you would've known that.
It's patently stupid of you to think that you somehow have the inside track to analysis of the games played because you attended a game that I watched on the webstream. Sure the experience is better live but nothing about a broadcasted game gives you any special insight. You've been a total d!ck to the team. You actually should apologize to them personally or just quit pretending to be a "fan".

You gave a opinion that team has given an honest effort. I refuted your opinion by saying you don't know what an honest effort is. That's all.

Actually I have a really good idea of the difference between playing better teams and losing and just not trying. I've seen plenty of it this season.

Actually it's not stupid to believe I have better view of things by seeing it in person instead of on a broadcast. Why? Because on a broadcast you only see what the director says you can see whereas, in the arena, you can see anything you want.

you two are funny...who cares who's the bigger fan. JJ has valid points...they sucked yesterday and today and need to be called out... amateur or not! DD...being positive is great but you have to call a spade a spade. DD...all I can say is that I hope Illinois get's a Big 10 team for you to follow. I've appreciated your service to UAA hockey over the years and have even donated to your blog...but enough is enough.

I say next year they hand out green and yellow paper bags for all of us fans to wear over our heads at the games. Maybe DD can get one to wear while he's watching the feed from Illinois. Cheering for this team and university isn't easy! Sugar coating everything and ripping into our opponents (e.g. SCSU) does nothing to move this program forward. Tough Love baby!

You said it. Too many people around sugarcoat what happens with this team. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having realistic expectations for the program and calling it out when they aren't being met. I've long been positive about this program but, quite frankly, there is nothing to be positive about right now and I'll express that.

Expectations for the program? Exactly, JJ. And that includes a NEW coach and a new approach. You always trash the team but never the coach. Last night late in the 3rd UAA had a powerplay. Haider and Tuttle suggested Shyiak "pull a Blais" - pull the goalie - for a 6th attacker. But he didn't do it. That was probably the teams best chance, but Shyiak let it pass. It appears to me that Shyiak is one who should be called out for lack of effort. He's simply going through the motions and collecting a paycheck.

I see your points and DD's points, but you have been terribly negative this season JJ. How can the team get out of this slump when every time they turn around they are surrounded by negativity? That's a fine line.

Maybe UAF is a better team and your team lost to the better team. Anyone watching those games would have to admit UAF is a better skating team with more talent. Could be reversed next year but this year it was easy to see.

Oh it was easy to see UAF was a better team, there's no doubt. But UAA rolled over, UAF was hitting them all over the ice and UAA didn't respond for the most part and UAA made very little effort to loose pucks.

But congrats to UAF, you guys clearly were better.

I think UAA actually played better last night than Friday. You had a legit chance to win on Friday thanks to Kamal standing on his head; it would have been ugly otherwise. Last night we got the big lead and spent the 3rd period holding the rope until the final buzzer. The most drama of the evening was that linesman getting his clock cleaned on the 3rd...glad he got back up and skated on.

I am happy (as always) to keep the trophy, but UAA has got to make some changes in their hockey program. I've been going to Gov Cup games at Sully off and on since 2001 and last night was the most empty I've ever seen that building for this rivalry...and that was with a lot of blue in the stands. It was very telling.

I realize I watched on the internet, but it looked pretty full to me. Haider and Murphy said it was the best crowd of the season ... and the facebook pictures looked very full, even in the balcony. ???
