I hope Ghost is alright. Most Teams know they can't beat us so they take cheap shots at our (arguably) best player,

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Good bounce back win. From afar, it seems like it took about four periods this weekend for Union to find its groove after a month off.

Union lacked their usual crispness on Friday and uncharacteristically allowed 17 shots in Saturday's first period.

Those last two periods on Saturday -- outshooting Princeton 37-16 and pulling away -- are a good sign any rust was shaken off.

The Gostisbehere injury will need to be watched, but we probably won't know much for a few days.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Good bounceback win last night against a hard nosed Princeton team with a hot goalie. I thought there was actually a nasty edge to some of the Tigers such as the dangerous hit from behind on Sullivan. I think the hit on Ghost was a clean one however and it looked like either his hip or back area was involved. He was sitting with his parents in street clothes for the final two periods. With my acute game watching skills I didn't realize his absence until the middle of the second period.

Fitting that Daniel Carr got the ENG. he was robbed on a bunch of shots. Colin has really progressed and become the type of goalie I suspected he could be. With Ghost injured Mat Bodie seemed to be on the ice all game. I love his game and his smarts. He will be a tough one to replace.

The PK was perfect on the weekend and the PP was shut out. Go figure. Despite the tough loss at Q, we still got the needed two points for the weekend and have a decent shot at regaining first place. The injury situation of course is of concern as well as Vecchione's apparent case of mono. It's never easy.

First trip to Hobey was a bit of a letdown. It's a vintage barn but the sight lines in a good part are horrible. Their scoreboard was worse than Messa's and no shots on goal tracker.

On to UNH

From the Bonnyville Pontiacs website in 43 games Spencer Foo has 27 goals (3rd or 4th in the league), 44 points in 43 games , 9th in the league. He's 19 , is listed as a center, right shot, is 6 ft and 177. Just one of the few players to not miss any games, many many injuries during 2013 may have impacted teams performance. Sounds like he is being heavily relied on to help carry the load. Heisinberg has no entry for him yet. Sounds like another character kid, hope he can contribute in the face-off circle.

Schott report on Ghost & Vecchione. Bennett saying Ghost is "day to day" and "may not play this weekend", and Ken implies may save him for the league games crunch. I love how Bennett says Vecchs has a "full-body injury" ;).

Also found this announce from Foo's AJHL team on committing to Union. Sounds like a good "Union type" player and like that he seems have a goal scoring touch. Have to admit I'm curious too about how good he is at faceoffs, though wonder as in some places he is listed as a RW or RW/C indicating he may have been more of a wing.

IMO lots of positives from the past weekend, assuming Ghost's injury is not serious. The big thing to me is that Stevens seems to be getting in a groove and by my count has been excellent in 5 of his last 6 games. This team could be seriuosly good if they get everyone healthy and get A+ goaltending. Games coming up with UNH could be big in the PWR at end of season, especially if U is close to getting a top seed (I know huge speculation at this point). Having Vecchione and Ghost would be a boost on the big ice surface, but agree don't want to risk anything at this point.

Totally agree. Whatever Bennett decides will be the "right choice". We still have 5 ECAC games against current top 20 teams (todays USCHO) going forward and I would rather take the hit now, in this weekends non-conference games against UNH and be as close to full strength as possible against our ECAC friends. Without Ghost & Vecchione its going to be a very hard hill to climb. Would need the team to really "step up". UNH is very very good, well coached and better than their record indicates.

Shayne is currently 3rd in the Hobey voting:

Ben Hutton - Maine - 2522 votes
Johnny Gaudreau - Boston College - 2238 votes
Shayne Gostisbehere - Union - 1637 votes

Only two others have over 1,000.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat?

Great for Shayne, but right now I'm more concerned about whether he will be playing this weekend.

Anyone know of the viewing options for the UNH games?
