The Carr situation is disturbing. Just when things seemed to be in a good place, a major step back. I guess we will have to wait for whatever information we can get.

3-1 Union after two .... this is going 60 minutes ... their goalie is standing on his head, making some great saves. We have had a hard time holding on to leads in period 3.

Once again a big lead evaporates but we gutted it out. Credit to PSU for taking away our forecheck and taking over the neutral zone. Fortunate to win this one but hopefully one to learn from. Stevens was run at least twice with no call. The refs seem more willing to call a ticky tack penalty on a skater than to protect the vulnerable goaltender.

It was alarming that Union let a 3-0 lead go to waste. Though they managed to win, you can't let those leads go to waste.... it's a concern going forward until it consistently proves not to be.

Hats off to Penn State, they never quit. They played with intensity for 60 minutes. They never let up. We were lucky tonight.

In advance of this weekend's series with Union, The Daily Collegian caught up with longtime Union beat writer Ken Schott of the Daily Gazette for a few questions as the Dutchmen and the Lions square off Saturday and Sunday night at Pegula Ice Arena.

Collegian: What can Penn State do to exploit some of their weaknesses?

Schott: Penn State needs to get Union into penalty trouble. The Dutchmen are just 82.2 percent (37-for-45) on the PK. Also, the Nittany Lions have to hope the Dutchmen overlook them like they did last season at Messa Rink. Union is coming out of final exams for the first trimester.

Collegian: What does Union have to do to win?

Schott: In order for Union to win, it needs to take these games seriously. Just keep up the pressure and, if its gets a lead, don't sit on it.

A couple changes for tonight - Nick Cruice in for Alex Gonye and David Roy in for Mark Bennett.

Gonye is sitting tonight despite assisting on the GWG last night. Bennett is missing his first game of the season.
