Union vs. Clarkson at 4pm Friday in Lake Placid
Quinnipiac vs. Colgate 7:30pm Friday in Lake Placid

I am hoping to make the trip down Saturday (if Union makes it). Do you think I could by tickets at the door? The Herb Brooks arena seats 7,700.

Correction...Union will play either Clarkson or Cornell. They play their game 3 tomorrow.

Union’s Hockey Team Turns Adversity to Advantage

Now firmly established as a perennial contender and moving past the unexpected tribulations of this season, Union has only one goal left to accomplish on the ice.
“We established that winning culture and put ourselves with the elite teams,” Ikkala said, “so now I think we need to prove we deserve to be there with a national championship.”

nice article, happy to see my mug in the Yale / Union picture, to the left of Wilkins, front row , light jacket. Not important but nice to see.

This was a fun series with two evenly matched games that could have gone either way for the most part. Dartmouth is a solid team. They gave Union a good fight, and could be a contender next season with few projected personnel losses (and the return of redshirt Eric Robinson).

Big Green Battle But See Season End with 4-2 Loss at Union

“Tonight was a great game. This was a great college hockey game,” Gaudet reiterated. “Both teams got excellent goaltending and it was another winnable game for us. They (Union) are a really great team, so I was pleased with how we responded to their skill and depth in this series.”

We have done an enourmous amount of good winning these past 4 games. This sweep was critical. The pairwise would have been very unforgiving. Our RPI actually dropped a little because Darmouth was ranked so low but we are still about equidistant from Boston College and Ferris State. Ferris State just got by BSU, the 8th seed, in 2OT.

On to Lake Placid

Is it just me or were those two of the poorest officiated games I've seen? Both games were definitely closer than the scores would indicate, but I think they will be good foundations to build on, particularly for the freshmen who got their first taste of playoff hockey. Carr and Stevens were standouts, Max is money in the biggest games. Onward!

Just made hotel reservations in Lake Placid for Friday and Saturday nights. Not a lot left anywhere and what is there is selling for $400 night. I bet its all gone after Clarkson/Cornell. :(
Six hr drive from Boston.
I was at Atlantic City the past two years .... have never been to a ECAC final four where the Dutchman ever lost. Lets hope it continues.:)
The Alumni Office has organized something at the Crown Plaza at 2:00pm on Friday..... Will the Garnet Blades have something as well?
The Saturday contest for the finalists does not start until 7:30pm

Olympic Ice - :)
We played on it at St. Cloud and New Hampshire. Colgate played on it at Minnesota. There are only 9 college rinks.

No Garnet Blades event is scheduled. I think we will be fine on the large ice as it tends to favor quicker teams such as ours and takes away some of the physical play that other teams seem to like to employ against us. It's not going to be easy, and it shouldn't be.

That's one thing AC has over LP - hotel space (by far). Hotels were cheaper in AC to boot. March is out of season down there, but just the opposite in LP.

'As players from both teams swarmed the ice'

Both teams??? *** is he talking about??? Only RPIs bench clears. Seth should watch the video he posted in his own article.

So happy RPIs season ended the way it did. Exactly what they deserved. Terrible team, coach and program...

Anybody noticing how Coatta has improved this year, at center now , skating much better and exhibiting a lot of confidence out there, so good to see. Coaching and commitment personified.

Agreed, Sam has been putting in the hard work in practice and doing extra skills sessions and the hard work has paid off. He's been a much more noticeable player over the second half of the season and his icetime has risen accordingly.

It's not just you. Brutal officiating both games. Friday there was the tripping penalty that should have been called on the Red Line. And if that was actually a penalty then why was there not a penalty shot? Total F up by the ref on that one.

The refs lost control on Sat. To the point where it almost got really messy late in the 2nd. They seemed to pull it together in the 3rd though.

Great weekend overall. Looking forward to next weekend. More 1st place votes coming our way on Monday.

U!

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

BC is about to lose to ND, again. Union should move up to #2 tomorrow. That will be a first.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

BC is losing with 55 seconds left. They have a big lead over us in the pairwise. Its a longshot but if they lose (down by 2 with 55 seconds) AND we run the table this coming weekend, we might catch them and that would give us Worcester. BC would get Bridgeport. We can only guess at this point. We may get more 1st place votes from USCHO. There are lots of folks on the bubble. Also, if western teams have conference upsets, that are not currently ranked, its going to knock folks out that otherwise might have made it. The problem for the ECAC is that when a HE team loses, its to another high pairwise. Losing to a low pairwise is a real bodyblow. A loss by Cornell tonight might end any chance for a NCAA tournament slot.

BC is too far ahead of us in the RPI. Also, ND is a high rank. However, if we run the table AND the right teams win and lose in HE, we may catch them, maybe 25% chance.
After the game
Pairwise RPI
BC 57 .5895
UNION 55 .5808

The Northeastern Loss helps Colgate move up.
