Great game by the Dutchmen this afternoon. Congratulations to Alex on the shutout. I have to admit, I wasn't quite sure about him earlier in the season, but Jason Tapp has worked his magic once again as Sak looked much more confident in his abilities. He plays the angles much better than he was back in October and is much more confident coming out and challenging the shooter. He made a huge save on Lorito in the first on a breakaway that easily could've changed the momentum of the game.
This team is scary good right now. They have shown over the last couple of three or four weeks that they can win playing any style of play against any type of opponent. We set our new school record for league wins with 18 after today's victory. Plenty of time to rest up before the quarterfinals in two weekends, let's go U!

I forgot to add that Union went 12-0 against the Ivies this year. I'll have to do some research on the subject, but I can't remember the last time that an ECAC team went 12-0 against the Ivies in the regular season.
Quick research (thanks to tbrw.info) shows that Cornell went 12-0 against the ivies in 1968-1969 and 1969-1970, not sure about other teams in the league, but this is something that looks like it hasn't happened often. RPI completed the feat in 1983-1984 and 1984-1985 as well.

Some more unexpected good news. Ferris lost again to Alaska Fairbanks. They dropped to 6th. Boston College lost. The net effect on our RPI was to enlarge the small gap between ourselves and 4-9 and shrink the gap between BC-Minnesota and ouselves. We are back tied with SCSU in the pairwise most likely due to their SOS and win over the "Fighing Souix". We could not have asked any more from this team this weekend. They have really positioned themselves well for a #1 seed for the NCAA playoffs, as much as one can do at this point. Time to switch gears now and focus on the ECAC Tournament. If we take care of business, the NCAA seed will take care of itself. Going to be a lot of great hockey next weekend in that first round.

It would seem like more likely to happen in more recent years because prior to 1984, you had the current Hockey East teams (at least those that sponsored D-I) in the ECAC, so you didn't necessarily play all of the ivies twice. Obviously Cornell was able to get 12-0 despite being an ivy because Penn still sponsored a D-I team.

I have some manual records for this. So far the best I've come up with is Clarkson going 11-1 in 1999 (only loss 3-4 at home against Princeton).
Edit: Unless it happened in '12 or '13 (for which my data is not filled in entirely), Union is the only non-Ivy to go 12-0 against the Ivies in ECAC play since 1986 when my data begins.
RPI doing it in 1985 seems right since they were 20-1 that year (I don't know who they lost to but Ralph sure will.)

The ECAC loss was to SLU. They were 12-0 in the regular season and four more victories in the ECAC playoffs vs. Ivies.

Very true. I'll definitely start working on it...in a few years. Did you end up going to the Brown game by the way?
I actually thought Union and Brown looked pretty even and equally sluggish through the first 50 minutes of the game before Union turned it on with those two great goals. Alex looks great in net. By the time Collin leaves at the end of next season, it will be exciting to see what we have there. His last two games now boast a 1 goal victory against the then-#1 team in the country on the road and now a shutout. Both Daniels carried us in the end so that was nice to see.
I could not get over how empty, cold, and quiet Meehan was, especially on Senior Night. It should be called the Meehan Morgue. This Brown team plays hard and they deserve better. Nice to see Union break the losing streak there though. We now have the longest unbeaten streak in the country thanks to Notre Dame's win over BC. We just have to keep winning, hope Yale loses early in the ECAC's then we'll see U in Bridgeport!
A well-deserved bye this weekend and then we get Princeton, Dartmouth, Harvard, Brown, or SLU.
