Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

USCHO always has that last "attendance adjustment" that always (IMO) screws the ECAC and the West and helps HE.

It's been a good predictor, though, and given how lousy regional attendance has been that factor is not going away. That's an unfortunate fact of NC$$ life.

I am hopeful the reason the ECAC has gotten hurt by intra-band tweaks has been because until recently we've tended to be the 3 and 4 seeds, which are moved with impunity. They are less likely to shift 2s, so as the conference improves the tourney may become more neutral to our conference.

Hosting will always be a problem and will always benefit the factory schools, but again the NC$$ doesn't dare get rid of it.

Newhouse has gotten a little bigger in the past year. He was listed at 5'7/155 as a sophomore, now he is listed at 5'8/165.

He's actually the second (known) 2016-2017 commit. The other is Max Novak's younger brother, Wade.

As things stand now:

2014: F Ryan Scarfo, F Tyler Hynes, F Roman Ammirato, F Kevin Shier, D Connor Light, D Nick DeSimone

2015: F Spencer Foo, F Mark Dufour, F Brett Supinski, F Brendan Taylor, F Cole Maier, G Joe Young

2016: F Wade Novak, D Ben Newhouse

Any word on Ryan Scarfo with NHL looks? He better not pull an Andrew Johnston on us!

He's having a good, not great season in the BCHL.. nothing like what Johnston had in the SJHL. I do think he will be an impact player though. I've seen some video and he is a really strong skater that handles & protects the puck well. The coaches should be able to turn him into a good one.

Also noticed that DeSimone was named 1st team All Star in OJHL, here is the blurb from the website..

Defence – Nick Desimone (Buffalo Jr. Sabres)
Playing his first season in the OJHL, the 19-year old rearguard was a pillar on the back-end for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, anchoring the club’s power play while providing a steadying presence in the defensive end. The native of East Amherst, New York finished fourth on the Sabres and second overall among OJHL defenders with 51 points in 52 games played this season, helping the club capture a second consecutive West Division title, while earning Gongshow Gear South-West Conference Player-of-the-Month runner-up honours in October. He fired home 13 goals, also second best in the league, and his 38 assists were tied for third among rearguards and 19th overall among all skaters. Desimone would be named to the OJHL South-West Conference All-Star Team and would help them finish as runner-up at the 2013 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge as the only defenceman to record two goals in the tournament. He is committed to join Union College next season.

Time again Dutchmen to go marching into battle !!!!
Remember what they said at Concord and Lexington: "Stand your ground, don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here!!"

Here's a little more on Newhouse, with some insight from overtheboards.net: http://t.co/dIxX6zYFzR

Ben is a smart kid - honor roll student in a demanding private high school. He is a great skater with good vision and instincts. He is not very big and I don't expect him to get too much bigger, his family is not big. My kid shadowed Ben two years ago before deciding to go to BSM himself and has skated with him in summer training for two summers.

How do you see Ben's game translating to the D1 level?
