Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

but hoky knows so much about every team in the country. i know he loves union for some reason but has he finally come out and revealed union is his #1 team???

I believe he loves Union so much (and Providence, for that matter) because Nate Leaman recruited his kid.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Our captain's doing great. He's having another All-American caliber season, which is something that everyone on RPI's current defense corps could only have a wet dream about.

The Ghost throwing his stick incident was one delusional Colgate fan's take on a completely harmless play. The way he described it you would've thought Ghostisbehere tried to stab the Colgate player in the throat with his broken stick. It was one of the most hilarious posts I've ever seen on here, and I don't think even FlagDude would've been able to dream up something so much further from the actual reality of what happened. Ghost's stick broke when he fanned on a clearing attempt, he slid the broken stick away to avoid getting a penalty for playing with a broken stick. Stick never touched the puck or happened to get anywhere near to any of Colgate's players on the ice.

I don't know why you're bringing me into the situation when I was busy watching RPI beat Cornell. As for throwing the stick, rule 55 is pretty clear about that one. http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/IH14.pdf

Also, would you like me to get started with what I heard from Cornell fans about what your team got away with?

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

It seems to me that the straight mean isn't the best statistic to use here. Perhaps the median or just the total number of penalties. That would take outliers (like the Mayors' Cup) out of the picture. I doubt either other measure makes RPI look like a team of Lady Byng wannabes though.

OK then, how about we take all of the league bias out of the picture, and look at the remaining 11 NC games. Totals thus far are 503-374. Take out the league ones (307-218), leaves 196-156. Husker asked to remove the Mayor's Cup game (79-62) and that leaves 117-94. Per game, that's about 10.5 to 8.5. Not that big of a difference.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

I sometimes read some of the Cornell's Hockey Blogs. Some excellent commentary. Good discussion of the Cornell/RPI game. http://elf.elynah.com/

It looks like right at the end of the game RPI's Leboeuf (6'6", 215) went after Cornell's Joakim Ryan (5'10", 182) with a cheapshot, (just like the cheap shot Haggerty put on Bodie on November 16, 2013.)

PENALTY TOTALS (THIRD PERIOD)
Rensselaer 19:46 Leboeuf, Guy: KNEEING MAJOR 5 minutes
Rensselaer 19:46 Leboeuf, Guy: GAME MISCONDUCT GAMEMISC 10 minutes

Joakim Ryan | #5 | D | Cornell

Some Cornell Fan Comments:

- "The highlight of the game was at least nobody got kicked out of the game for retaliating after Ryan was kneed."

- "Speaking of Mowery and Ryan, when is the league going to really crack down, especially hits like on Ryan. Why only a game misconduct, and not a DQ, even for more than 1 game. Much like how easily Union got off, at least until all the uproar, getting 15 min at the end of a game is meaningless. Here we could lose, arguably, our best player for the rest of the year. And no, I don't know anything about his injury, but it could have put him out."

My Questions: Isn't a 10 minute Game Misconduct an automatic game suspension? Shouldn't a thug like Leboeuf be made to sit out a game? What if Cornell does lose their best player for the rest of the year because of this? I hope the League reviews this. There is a reason why RPI leads the ECAC in PIMs. Its **** like this.

A game *disqualification* is an automatic suspension for the next game. I don't know if there's an appeal process for that, though.

A game misconduct usually follows a 5-minute major during the game.

not true. rpi fan pointed out that all the penalties are from protecting themselves vs union
eddie haskell is in complete control

The league will not release its internal regulations to the general public (I've tried asking Mr. Hagwell), although this would not preclude you from asking the coaching staff for a copy, even if it is for a previous edition (I doubt much has changed). According to NCAA regulations, though, video review is allowed to make the determination between a game misconduct and a game disqualification. In addition, this would not preclude the league from taking further action, as they had done after our debacle three weeks prior.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

According to Ken Schott, both of this weekend's home games are SRO.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

RPI is 3rd in the nation for most penalty minutes, which results in a lack of discipline, too many thugs, or a combination of both. To speculate Bennett went after Appert for no reason is laughable.

From Ken Schott column:

"On Sunday, the school suspended Bennett for two games, without pay, for going after Appert and throwing a punch that appeared to connect with RPI center Milos Bubela as Bubela was pushing Appert away from Bennett."

Your coach hit a student-athlete. Bottom line. "lack of discipline" could be used to describe Bennett. People in glass houses.....

Ken Schott does not state Bennett “hit a player,” rather “appears to connect”, reading comprehension is important. Besides that point, the Bennett situation occurred once, meanwhile, Appert has been suspended multiple times. The RPI team consistently "lacks discipline" using your #3 in the nation penalty minute ranking as empirical evidence.

I was listening to "Union Hockey Coach's Corner LIVE from The Van Dyck". It sounds like the boys are going to be ready. I don't have a reading on injuries. Sounds like everyone is day to day. Good discussion. Lots of respect for Clarkson, for their size and the fact that they, and Cornell, play very similar physical styles to us. They also nearly beat us. Lots of respect for St. Lawrence. Best Forward (s) in College Hockey. They did beat us. They are focussed on Clarkson.

They interviewed one of the assistant coaches (Assistant Coach John Ronan) and Sullivan. The Cleary Cup was the only goal the team had this season. Nothing beyond it. One emphatic point was made .... "To a man, every member of this team wants that league championship (Cleary Cup)." Wooooow! I get a real sense that they can taste it. :) Very cautious about ECAC tournament play and what can happen in a tournament.

Don't know how long that standing room is going to last. I think the standing room is over by the student section? Lots of alumni I know are flying into Albany for this one. I hope the weather holds. Its going to be a rocking weekend. ;)

Also, it sounds like we might be playing Maine next year ....

Your previous statement had nothing to do with whether or not Bennett hit Bubela. All you wrote was that he went after Appert. AspyDad supplied a quote from Ken Schott that disputes that statement. Your comprehension of what you yourself wrote is lacking.

Anyone know how you sign up to be a member of the Garnet Blades?

That is incorrect. I stated "To speculate Bennett went after Appert for no reason is laughable" in response to ibanezist00 "also ignoring the fact that my coach decided to go bonkers on appert for no reason and got off easy".

This is the post to which he was replying: http://board.uscho.com/showthread.p...at-(Part-II)&p=5888761&viewfull=1#post5888761. I add that Bennett has said nothing as to why he did what he did, whatever that may have been. Until he says something and I can access it, I am going by what I saw on the videos.

Just curious, are you either a Union graduate or current student?
