2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Acting head coach Joe Dumais said before today's practice that Eli Lichtenwald (lower-body) should be "good to go this weekend."

Dumais said Cole Ikkala (lower-body) will be more of a game-time decision.

That is great news !!!! Ikkala is one tough hockey player and we can use his (6'0", 205) muscle this weekend.

Highly recommend Katie O'Byrnes. A lot of Union folks go there.
Johnk runs a classy establishment. Is Gepetto's still open? Great stromboli. (Been a few years since I last was there...)

Question about the distance of O'Byrnes from the rink. Would it be better to park at the bar and walk to the rink and back? Also, if driving over to Messa most likely right at gametime or late, where to park, don't mind walking a few blocks.

Katie O'Byrnes is about one and a half miles from the rink. Walking probably would take about 20-25 minutes, but it's going to be around 20 degrees at gametime.

Finding an on-campus spot close to gametime will be tough. Offhand, your only chance that late might be the lot off Nott Street by Garis Field (see map).

Douglas Rd (behind the rink off Lenox Rd) is a short walk from the rink and I think you can park on that street. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Walking from KOB's at night is not a good idea regardless of the weather. Unless you get there early, parking lots fill quickly. Parking is allowed and safe in the Lenox Road area, including Douglas & Avon Roads, and may spill over onto Wendall Ave because there will be less roadside from all the snow. You can see where everyone else parks. Also can park on Union Ave. if there is room or the cross streets in that area.. I usually look for a spot on Gillespie, though these get filled up when there are big games.

Native Schenectadian/RPI fan chiming in here. O'Byrnes is great and definitely worth checking out. If you're looking for food, there is also Bombers Burrito Bar right down the street (we also have one in Troy now if you are heading up for the weekend for both games). It is possible to walk from Union to O'Byrnes but I wouldn't recommend it at night because it IS Schenectady, and it IS a distance, and it IS going to be cold out. :)

Iban, not to ruin it for you but you do realize that Bomber's is owned by a Union grad, don't you? ;)

I had no idea johnk owned Katie O'Byrnes. I went there all the time when I was an undergrad. Great food, good drinks, good people.

LT, as others have stated, I would not walk from Katie O'Byrnes to the rink. I'd recommend parking in the visitor lot at the corner of Seward and Nott Street then walk up Nott street about 2-3 minutes to the rink. You can also try going in the main entrance of Union College: When leaving O'Byrnes, make a right on Union street and a left a few blocks later into the main entrance on Library Lane. You'll see the Nott Memorial in front of you and the Admissions Building (Grant Hall) to your right. There is a small lot across from Admissions and behind Admissions. You should be able to find an open space there and then walk across campus (about 5 minutes) to the rink.

Is your video feed always soundless? I'm not getting any audio whatsoever (radio broadcast, crowd noise, etc).

perfect start for the weekend. Union finds a way to beat a hungry Brown team and Eddie Haskell orchestrates another choke.

Yes I did John, coming up with my wife and daughter and staying in toga for the night. If you are at the bar, I will pick you brain about parking. Thank you for all the replies and assistance, if anyone is coming down to New Haven in a couple of weeks, I will certainly reciprocate. BTW, nice win tonight, Brown is a tough team.

Ok, had a couple extras. I will be there. See you tomorrow night.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

I came away impressed with Brown. They play hard and fight to the end. Besides that, they have some skill with guys like Lorito, Lappin and Naclerio. There may not be a hotter player in the league right now than Naclerio, who scored tonight. He now has 10 goals and six assists in his last 10 games. Brown won't be an easy out in the league tournament.

It was a decent effort from the Dutchmen. At times, I thought they passed the puck too often and should have shot it quicker than they did. On the plus side, killing the 3rd period penalty against Gostisbehere already missing Vasaturo was a huge gut check. With Quinnipiac also winning -- they beat Clarkson 5-3 -- it was a huge two points.

Rick Bennett wasn't in the building, though he could have been. He watched from home.
