Anytime you beat Clarkson at home (they were 9-2) you have accomplished something. We will see them again in a few weeks.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Gutsy win. Well done . . . very well done.

Gutsy is the best way to describe it. I thought we were toast at 2-0, but the boys found their game and really started taking it to Clarkson at that point. Colin Stevens was lights out again tonight, he made three highlight reel saves in the couple of minutes after Union tied the game. You could sense Clarkson was out of gas when Union had that prolonged stretch of time in Clarkson's zone shortly before Novak tied it up.

Back to first place as the game in hand that Q had is finally used up.. Should be a barn burner down the stretch.

Yep, Union capitalized on Clarkson's failure to clear the zone. A very well played game. Stevens made a number of unbelieveable saves. Without those Union loses. Clarkson's 3rd goal looked to be a softie. This is now the 3rd game in 2014 Clarkson has blown a 2-0 lead. :(

I was on the edge of my seat the whole game, glad we go home with a W tonight. Max Novak with two big goals and Stevens was fantastic again. I hope Eli and Pont are ok and good to go next weekend.

A few lines from one of several hundred letters, emails, notes, the school has received from Alumni in support of the team, its Coach and its Captain, Matt Bodie. The school has been flooded with them.

"I am well aware of what recently happened and have studied and analyzed the 7 available films. That has not, in any way, diminished in my eyes the character of this team or it's coach who has always put his team and the school first, even ahead of winning.

I wrote earlier in the season that what impressed me about the team was its captain. You could tell how much he was respected by his teammates and how important that respect was to him and the balanced and thoughtful way he communicated in a confident in unassuming manner. You could also tell by the 60 minutes of hockey he would play each night that he was the type of leader who would live up to expectations."

Ciampini, Carr, Gostisbehere, Novak, Sullivan, Wilkins ..... there when we needed them.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

We at one point had scored 2 goals in 7 periods and then BAM, 2 goals in a minute or so. Hard to tell on the lap top but we seemed to have new found jump all game. Clarkson announcer said we have killed off something like 22 straight penalties, it looks like that problem has been solved. Still got killed on faceoffs. Huge huge road win under the most adverse of circumstances. Hopefully our mini slump is history.

Big win tonight, congrats to the players and coaches for a good job on a very tough weekend. Stevens was fantastic and the team turned it up in the 2nd half of the game. The players who needed to step-up did so tonight, but to me the real heroes on the weekend were the youngsters like Henry, Taylor, Krug, DiPauli and Martin who were pressed into bigger roles than normal and gave the team a chance to win both nights. Also thought that Roy was very good this weekend. Kudos to the Knights too, who are a much improved team and look like they will have to be reckoned with.

The key focus at this point has to be finishing top 4, don't want to have to play a first round roulette series and then go on the road. Have 4 points on Clarkson who is in 5th, so still not much breathing room. Two more huge games next weekend and will be nice to get Bodie back.

Didn't catch whether Pontarelli was hurt Friday or a healthy scratch? I also figured that Eli may not have traveled with the team since there is a limit on how many players can be brought on road trips, but not sure on that either. I'm also assuming that Ikkala was hurt on Friday and was why he wasn't in lineup tonight. I'm expecting we'll hear more on the dreaded "lower body injury" this week. All I can say is regardless of all this, is nice to see the depth players stepping up and doing the job. In the end this adversity could bring the team closer together. Should be an exciting February..

Ikkala was injured blocking a shot late in the third on Friday night and didn't return. Not sure what the deal was with Eli and Pontarelli.

Huge win against a high quality opponent. It wasn't looking good down 2-0 or 3-2 but credit the team for rallying. One can hope they use it as a springboard the rest of the way. Great to see a power play goal after the struggles that unit has endured lately -- just as the PK became dominant (0 PPGA in last 8 games) the PP went into a lapse. Hopefully they can find a comfortable balance on special teams.

Hopefully, I'll get something on the guys that didn't play during the week.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Before the Clarkson victory, one could begin wondering how the Dutchmen remained worthy of a top five ranking. The inspiring brand of "Union Hockey" seem strangely absent over the last couple of weeks. However, it is almost inevitable that a swoon will occur during a lengthy D I season. Last night surely must have renewed the confidence of the team and its rabid fan base.
With the national champions due in town next weekend, the Dutchmen have another tall order, not to mention a Brown team that appears very pesky.
But of some note, Matt Eversmann, of Black Hawk Down fame, is returning to address the team on Saturday night. He knows a bit about adversity and is a superb inspirational speaker. He spoke to the team two years ago on the eve of their run to the Frozen Four.

Schott confirms that Eli was hurt before the weekend and didn't make the trip, also that Ikkala was hurt on Friday night.

Our depth came to the fore last night but it would be great to get those two back.

You will certainly take the two points although it's not how you would have guessed it. Time to get back to consistent play and take 4 points vs. two weaker teams.

After 14 games union is in 1st place in a very strong ECAC. Can't beat that!

i was referring to the 2 injured players, Eli and Cole. But yes those were two huge points especially after going down 2-0 in the 2nd last night.

Which end does Union shoot twice? Press box (north) or south?

We shoot at the north/press box goal twice since our bench is the south one...closer for defensive changes in 3rd period and stuff...

On a non hockey note, Seahawks win!!! I've always rooted for smaller market teams and it was fun to watch Seattle get its due tonight...Now, if Union could only figure out this Frozen Four thing, I'd be in good shape... ;)

Enjoy the week.

Keith.

Brown and Yale are no patsies

I agree...Over the years, both Yale and Brown have given us fits...It will take two solid, 60 minute efforts combined with a little hockey luck to have a big weekend...

In the ECAC stretch run, there are no easy wins...

Keith.

Thanks, gonna shoot up Saturday to knock your rink off my list. Who is the Union or RPI guy that has a pub nearby? Need a place to grab a quick meal before the game.
