2013-2014 Minnesota Gophers Future Schedule and Beyond

I wonder about this. I don't have the Pairwsie handy from last season, but Michigan State & Ohio State must have been pretty low. Factor in Penn State and that's 60% of your conference schedule.

Yeah, and those teams will be down forever, and other teams up forever. Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan State all are traditional powers. Ohio State and Penn State much less so, but it's foolish to think with their resources they always will be so.

I'm not doubting that, but MSU & OSU had the luxury of feasting on CCHA cupcakes for 20+ games a year. Now its a whole new ballgame.

Yeah, now they don't have to go on the road to play cupcakes

Re: 2013-2014 Minnesota Gophers Future Schedule and Beyond

Does this mean they have more home games than now?

FWIW, the Gophers have basically 20 regular season home games every season. The last time they did not was 1999-2000 when they had 18. This year, they have 19.

This new schedule going forward guarantees at least 20 regular season home games. The biggest difference will be the number of road games. That will go from 14-16 to 12.

It's a whole new ballgame on a number of levels. Joining the B1G with Minnesota also opens new recruiting opportunities for Ohio State, Michigan State, and Penn State too. They get more access to the fertile Minnesota recruiting pool. It's foolish to think this move won't help their recruiting, and thus on-ice product.

It's the same argument I've been making against the NCHC. Conference wins and losses are a zero sum game. Someone has to suck.

And what about Notre Dame? They seem to be pretty confident that they will be getting home & home's with the B1G. If Michigan & Minnesota won't play on the road, where does that leave the Irish? Basically a bunch of teams in the midwest that need to have teams visit.

IMO, the pairwise will change when the Big Ten starts up because they are going to want the NCAA to give them a pass if their school is under .500.

Minnesota won't play Notre Dame on the road unless they come to Mpls, it will be the same as UND, DU, CC etc.

With this new schedule the Gophers save plenty of money on traveling. This new schedule smells like current non-conference Big Ten basketball and football schedules.

Re: 2013-2014 Minnesota Gophers Future Schedule and Beyond

I guess if you pay enough they will come. I still don't see UND coming a lot because I don't think the pay will be enough. Do you think I would be wrong?

Who cares. I don't care if Minnesota ever plays UND again. Ticks me off that we have to play one of the teams that helped destroy college hockey this year.

You're going to be a very angry man, unless you only blame UND & DU.

IMO, if both schools don't take their bag of pucks and go home this second tier realignment never happens.

Very true. I could be wrong, but I thought Scooby blamed PSU too. You get to play them 4 times a year not including playoffs.

PSU is now my least favorite team in all of college hockey. The first time Minnesota loses to them can't happen far enough into the future for me.

What if Notre Dame moved to the Big Ten before PSU starting their new hockey program. Who would be your least favorite team?

What we're doing hypotheticals now?

Notre Dame would be. I'm at least consistent. I hate Wisconsin too. And anyone in the NaCHoC.

I'm sorry. Why would the other 50+ schools agree to this change? Frankly, you're already planning on not playing anyone on the road, so it's not like you can bribe or threaten the rest of the rules committee.

This isn't like changing the bowl eligibility rules to allow 6-6 teams when the BCS conferences have a slight majority.
