Magnified by the fact that Katey Stone is primarily a 2 line/10 player coach as noted in other threads. But why shouldn't she keep recruiting all the high level kids she can get in if they keep committing despite the numbers? Buyer beware....and even those that sit get a Harvard degree. And in the end that is way more important in life than how much ice time you got.

And of course her recruits know this...which puts Ms. Stone is in an enviable position that offsets her inability to offer athletic scholarships. Then again, the same could be said for Yale and Princeton if they were to step up their game. Being selected to coach one of the various national teams, particularly the U18's, just might help their cause. ;)

Not that surprising. Her Dad went to Harvard. Ms Frazer played for both Team Quebec and Team Canada U18. Good skater, not afraid to jump up into the offensive play.

I think the bigger loss for next season is likely to the Canadian National Team! But I agree that this list won't replace ths combined loss. Becker and Hanson will provide backups and the future goaltender to replace Sperry but not be much of a factor this season barring injury. Elia is a strong player and will potentially be a factor this season. Steele and Sutherland (latter a former Harvard recruit) both appear to be strong players - never seen them personally. Cushing seems to be able to sneak a New England born/raised player onto the roster every year or two - Kennedy has the connections - but their first year usually is not significant. I think this BU team is going to really need last year's freshman - Juron, Woodworth, Russo, Braga, Lefort - to really step up big time to be successful this season. But their biggest issue on paper would appear to me to be on defense - they weren't a great defensive team last season when I watched them and this group seems even weaker - Sperry could end up seeing even more rubber this year.

3 solid kids who will be top 2 line players based on my limited, but memorable, observations of them so take it with grain of salt (others - ?):

Anastos - big, smart, extremely good hands and will put puck in net.
McClean - a PITA player - for opposing team. Small, fast and produces.
Cappizano - solid, fast, workhorse.

Um...no. 1) grad schools are a business and 2) anything that sets you apart from the masses is (usually) a good thing. It doesn't matter what got you into a certain (undergrad) school, it matters more what school it is and what you did during school

I find that most people who share your opinion have 1) never attended Ivy League school and 2) never obtained graduate education (Ivy or otherwise)

Grad schools care about:

- Where you went (provides context for performance and level of achievement)
- What you did there
- How well you did it
- What you did out of school (summers)
- GRE/GMAT/Other Test scores

They do NOT care about how you got in. If you go to an Ivy, are active, and do well there (grade-wise), the fact that you got in against a relaxed admissions standard for athletes is not something grad schools care about. I would also mention that the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM academic index for athletes (which they just raised in the last couple of years) excludes 80% or more of high school students, so relaxed admissions standards is relative.

The bigger issue is if an athlete can perform well academically and do meaningful summer activities given the time commitment of being a Division 1 athlete and this is where the relaxed admission standard may have an impact, because grad schools generally won't care that you are an athlete if you have a C average.
