2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

Wednesday Recruit Stats

BCHL Playoffs

Craig Martin had 1 goal and 1 assist but Alberni Valley lost 5-4 in double OT in the 7th game of the series. Alberni's season is now over. Craig Martin will be turning 19 in 2 days. I'd keep him back one more season in the BCHL for more development as I don't know if there will be space at forward with the arrivals of the Jonah and Nathan Renouf, Bo and Canon Pieper, Tanner MacMaster, Landon Smith, Andrew Taverner and KJ Tiefenwerth becoming eligible. That is 8 forwards replacing the Jones twins, JST, Hibbeler, and Brooks Robinson. Those 8 forwards are all pretty talented players which will push players like Matt Lemire, Soren Jonzzon and Zach Luczyk to healthy scratches likely. We will also see if BVB and Peca hang around. They are expected to but you never know.

Haven't seen anywhere but is this on TV tomorrow?

Nope. It's on that America One nonsense online. What a stupid bunch of silliness that ECAC Hockey makes it happen.

My guess is the league wouldn't allow a televised game during the playoffs unless ALL the games were televised, and that actually makes sense to me. Plus, in a playoff series I certainly don't want the momentum killer of TV timeouts.

BEAT YALE!

The middle game of the Cornell series last year was on NESN. I remember watching that shellacking in a bar.

It's a joke that the ECAC charges $9/game for playoff games. That's $27 for a weekend, if the series goes three games. The only people you're screwing are the parents of the players. I'm interested in watching those games, but I'm not paying $9 for the two games I'm not going to be at.

These leagues and teams that charge for their online streams fail to realize no one is paying for these streams. You're limiting the number of people that are going to be seeing your product. That's why Quinnipiac's foray into YouTube earlier this year was so smart. If the game was good, the viewership neared 1,000 people. Why do I have a sneaking feeling the ECAC won't be getting 1,000 fans to pony up the $9/game.

So stupid.

Think the only thing that would top our tickets being scalped on StubHub for exorbitant prices was if someone bought the stream and put it up on FirstRow/UStream, etc.

Then I would know we have really made it.

It's just another botched opportunity for publicity by the absolutely incompetent league office. Remember, these are the same guys who moved the ECAC tournament to Atlantic City, couldn't find a television outlet to broadcast the 2012 tournament in AC, and were able to get zero conference games on national television this year. For comparison, the NCHC is streaming all of the playoff games this weekend for free on their website. I'm currently watching Denver/UNO despite having no emotional connection to either team. The ECAC dropped the ball by signing with America One. America One is a sub-par service which only serves as a cash grab for America One/ECAC. I wish I would be surprised by their complete inability to market the league, but that has been pretty much par for the course for this administration.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

ECAC should have just signed a deal with SNY to broadcast some of the games especially the semifinals and finals with most of the teams in NY/NJ/CT area.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats Part II: The final push towards Philadelphia

The Jr. Bruins won the first USPHL Premier Championship. They took Game 1 last night 4-3 over the NJ Hitmen with Sean Lawrence saving 33 of 36 shots. Kevin McKernan had no points but 2 PIM's. Game 2 the Jr. Bruins won 5-4 with Sean Lawrence saving 31 of 35 shots. Kevin McKernan did not register on the score sheet. Both are committed to Quinnipiac for 2014-15.

They can't look more than two feet in front of their faces. It's an embarrassment.

I feel like most years, the week of the ECAC finals, the conference releases that it's partnered with Fox Sports Mountain West Idaho to broadcast the 3 championship weekend games. Not a good look.

Shagwell has insisted for years that they leave no stone unturned in looking for media outlets. Look on the bright side -- it is likely that nothing is going to ever be as embarrassing as not even having a single broadcaster for the ECACs.

The eventual solution is to abandon cable completely and have a dedicated ECAC online provider of video, stats, and whatever other content people would buy. Think of the ECAC as just ahead of the game for not ever bothering with TV penetration. Yeah, that's the ticket.
