Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

How did they play....Jonah 1 goal 3 assists....Nathan 2 goals 2 assists. Nathan has only been back 4 games but brother Jonah has played
all 22 games. They aren't big at 5' 8" 155lbs but they don't back down at all. Quite willing to take a hit to make a play. They are QUICK!
Not just skating but hand/eye and their on ice decisions. You've all seen that "thing" good players have. They skate to open ice and the
puck finds them. I saw that all night long.

I've only got to 1 Eagles game this year as life has gotten in the way. :-) Nov 27th I will see the Renouf twins up against another set of
future Bobcats brothers Bo and Canon Pieper. Both play for Coquitlam Express. Not twins....1 year apart. Good size 5'10" 180lbs and
scoring machines. They are from Roseville, Minn.

K
Peter who? Sounds like we'll have a solid future.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

WELL HERE WE GO! 45 minute or so till puck drop. I've had butterflies all day - Dad and I have FCSP all ready to go on the TV and we'll be cheering hard (well he might be listening to the Maine game - No complaints there) Gigantic win last night to finally get past Brown. One of our buddies was saying that when Garteig is done at QU, he'll go down as one of if not the best QU goalie. I didn't believe it, but he is starting to make me at least think it is possible. He has a long way to go to surpass what Hartzy did last year. Also I am a little uneasy of the fact that I have to break the whole I before E english rule when I spell his name - You know what they say I before E except after C or as in neighbor and weigh and Michael Garteig. At least that's how I plan to teach my kids the rule.

BEAT YALE! Hope Brendan Mason is watching this game from his throne in Hell.

He still has to completely fill Hartzell's shoes but I have to admit he's come out runnin'! :D

He was a brick wall in the BC Junior league.

The Renaufs have good talent but Quenneville has NHL caliber talent. His loss is bigger than people think.
Well, if that's the case, he probably wouldn't have stayed 4 years. So its better he left now than after a year or two. We'll be fine without him.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

It wasn't a win, but it wasn't a loss either. About 5 minutes of really sloppy play late in the second let the Bulldogs back into the game. I thought we responded well all things considered. The noise when Peca tied the game was about as loud as when Bui undressed Iles in Game 3 back in March. Mr. Bui, by the way, was in the house and came over to talk to me and a few others sitting in front of me.

We seem to have lost something on the power play and that was likely the difference tonight. If we convert on 1 or 2 of those opportunities, we dominate that game. Yale's 2nd and 3rd goals were due to poor defensive support in front of Garteig. One of our bunch labeled it "rookie mistakes" in not being able to get the puck out of the zone. Also, Yale took advantage of their second chances and we didn't. At the end of the night, it's a 3-point weekend and nothing to be ashamed of.

On a side note, can anyone remember the students staying for an entire game AND overtime? I don't think anyone left the building until it was over. Great show of support from the fans tonight.

Highly dissapointed that they played the video of Yale winning on the scoreboard. Would love to hear everyone else's thoughts.

We dominated Yale minus 5 mins and unfortunately those 5 mins were as good as our 60 mins. Good weekend overall. Well get 'em at Ingalls

I didn't have a problem with it. For me, it said what I've been saying since April: that one loss does not define the season we had nor does it diminish what the team has become. I also think it was Q's way of saying "congrats Yale, but we're still here and intend to be a thorn in your side."

The power play was terrible. This is where you will see the loss of someone like Quenneville affect the team. We saw Cory Hibbelar playing PP minutes and as much as I like his leadership he isn't a PP guy. I mean last year he was a 4th line guy and more of scrappy checking line player. We did see a PP of the Jones Twins, Peca, Anas and Devon Toews. I'd like to see a little more of Connor Clifton back there.

Maybe but maybe not. I mean Kellen Jones is an Edmonton draft pick and stayed 4 years. Jordan Samuels Thomas is a Winnipeg draft pick and stayed 4 years and Peca has stayed 3 years and is a Tampa draft pick. It is what it is but I'd rather have the guy for 1-2 years than say 4 games. Look what really ****es me off is leaving during the season 4 games into his college career after being committed for 3 years. That is what ****es me off. If you wanted to play major junior hockey then hey it would been nice to tell Rand say in the spring/summer so maybe we could have replaced him but after playing only 4 games is kind of a ****ty move to the team and the university.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Also another goal from Sam Anas who continues to be a point per game player. 51 shots on net after having 48 last night. 7 for Anas, 11 for Connor Jones and 10 for JST. Pretty penalized game with 7 QU penalties and 9 from Yale. Garteig had no chance on that Yale PP goal. That goal was a rocket and credit to Yale for that one. The other 2 goals were sloppy breakdowns in front of Garteig. All in all I will take a tie and a 3 point weekend. On to Harvard/Dartmouth next weekend.

Point taken, but Quenneville had been deemed the second coming so was more likely to bolt IMHO. We'll never know what he would have done for us. Also, those other guys have pretty much all said getting their educations were important to them. That obviously wasn't much of a consideration for Peter.

I couldn't agree more, but we can't do anything about any of this. Take it for what it is and move on, which is apparently what the team has done. I still say we'll be fine.

Don't dwell on what could have been... think about what will be! ;)

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

You outshoot a team 51-20, you really can't complain too much about the effort. They were flying last night. And to outshoot the No. 9 team in the country by 31 shots is really impressive.

That being said, we've lived by the freshman this season, and last night we died by it -- the team didn't do nearly a good enough job handling Yale's surge, and the defensive breakdowns were a little surprising. On the third goal, JST goes down to block a shot, then makes himself as small as possible. Really poor effort there, all he did was screen Garteig, who left a bad rebound on that goal, and on the second goal.

That being said, there's a ton of high-end skill on this team, that third goal was an insane pass from behind the net to fool the goalie. Thing of beauty. This team has a chance to be really, really good again. I'm really excited about what this team can do this year.

I'd be interested in seeing the possession numbers last night -- seems like we had the puck the entire game. I love that style of hockey -- the best defense is offense, and this team is playing a lot more offense than it is defense.

As has been the norm for a couple of years, we're just having trouble finishing. Sticks just off the ice, pucks bouncing over sticks, nobody around to collect the rebound, and outright whiffs.

Yales 2nd and 3rd goals were a direct result of not being able to clear the puck. Both times, the puck was kept in at the point and guys just started skating around in circles. Having watched the replay, I'm not sure there was any more Garteig could have done.

Most impressive to me was our first goal by Anas. He takes control of a bouncing puck at his defensive blue line, skates through a bunch of Yalies, gets down low, shoots, collects a rebound, passes, stick handles, slides to the low slot, and buries a pass from behind the goal line. His 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th... efforts directly led to that score. As has been said numerous times already, the kid is amazing.

the best defense is offense, and this team is playing a lot more offense than it is defense.
I said we'd be a better offensive team this year. Our defense is actually much better than I thought. Everyone keeps talking about Anas, the Jones, JST, Peca, Connor Clifton... but most of the freshman are really bringing it. Smith, Toews, Fiala, Schutt, Tim Clifton... they're all working hard and contributing.

It's a very fun team to watch.

I'm watching the replay on FCS-P and have to say that 4 minutes late in the second was some pretty ugly hockey by the Bobcats. Rand will have a lot of good teaching opportunities with that video!

That first goal, QU had two chances to clear the puck. When you can't clear it twice on the PP, it ends up in the back of the net every time.

Some sloppiness there, and they just kind of stood around a little. Look, that's hockey. It happens.

I think Toews will be a star in the ECAC.

Coach Pecknold has to be happy with this group considering it's a "rebuilding year". Anas fills Langlois' spot....Garteig steps in for Hartzell...the Jones twins are even better than last year.
For 5 minutes last night the young D showed their lack of experience at this level but on the whole have been better than expected.

Fun to watch? I only get to watch when the games are streamed. Last night was a listen only game living back here. :-(

PQ hasn't helped Brandon so far. 0-2 in his two games. 1 goal.... -1 in his 2nd game.

You know that all home games are streamed on YouTube, right?

Was last night not on YouTube? I thought every game had a video stream? Double-check on quinnipiacbobcats.com

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

All home games are YouTube streamed without the feed from the jumbrotron and the play by play from WQUN.
