Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Quinnipiac picked up a new recruit yesterday in LW Logan Mick. 5'11 166 lbs, July 25 1996 birthday. Enrolling in 2015-16 calender year. He will be a 19 year old when he arrives in Hamden.

Currently playing for the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL. In his first full season with the Vipers he scored 4 goals and had 5 assists in 48 games. He is a left handed shot as well.

UAA Seawolves fan here, wondering how your team will be this season. Are your departed seniors from last season going to leave a big hole?

They lost a bunch of d-man but they brought in some impact guys in the back end. Our hobey baker finalist graduated in Hartzell will be replaced by Sophmore Michael Garteig who has gotten very good reviews so far. The offense lost only 1 guy of note in Jeremy Langlois but Peter Quenneville is expected to upgrade that spot. I think this team is going to be really good again.

I agree with the caveat that it will depend on how quickly they come together and gel as a unit. This extended road trip to Alaska will go a long way to getting that done.

After watching them Sunday in the exhibition, I don't see any glaring deficiencies on either end of the ice. While they won't be the same team they were last year, they will have a whole new set of strengths to exploit this year.

I think they'll be just fine.

Mark I take it you're heading to Alaska tomorrow?

I wish... :( Unfortunately it's a wee bit too expensive for my wallet. I'd love to be there but it's just not economically feasible.

Besides, I'm saving up for the post-season! ;)

Ya tightwad. [And I'm not going to Alsaka next week when the Pioneers travel there]. ;)

Good luck to your QU lads this season. As for the Denvers...too many questions to know what the team will do this season. Scoring up front looks thin and the team is neither tall nor heavy among the forwards. Scoring on the blue line looks good, but other than Josiah Didier no size or 'stay-at-home' defensemen, and I think the defense may be vulnerable because of that. Questions in goal unless Brittain plays like he did as a freshman. My uneducated guess is that the team might be as good as two or three games over .500, but could as easily be four or five under .500. I'll go out on a limb and say the "up" side for the record is 17-15-4 and the "down" side is 14-18-4 based on the 36 game regular season schedule. I see Denver as a bottom-half-of-the-NCHC team. I'll be surprised if Denver makes the NCAA tournament.

Mark, I hope you and your family are well and had a relaxing summer. It's just about time to drop the puck. I'll stop by the thread from time to time.

Cheapskate!

Good luck to your QU lads this season.
Thanks, and same to your Pioneers.

Everyone here is fine (except me, of course). Relax and summer don't quite go together these days.

It's just about time to drop the puck.
Can. Not. Wait.

Thanks for the warning. I'll see if we can get better locks on the doors! ;)

I know they lost a lot on the defensive unit, but I agree. I think this team will be just fine -- in fact, I think it's reasonable to think they can hang in the top 10 for most of this season. They might have their best freshman class ever, the goaltending won't be as good as last year, but it'll still be fine, and the offense shouldn't miss a beat.

Really looking forward to this season. If they can get back to the tournament for the second straight year, they can prove last year wasn't a fluke. And that would be really, really cool if this team became something of a regular contributor to the national conversation. Cornell seems to be the benchmark in the ECAC, and if we could become a mini-Cornell, that would be really cool.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Little late to this thread, but nice to see it active again. First and foremost, nice to see ASAAG and the Denvers back in full force. Welcome!

Bummed I couldn't watch/listen to the exhibition Sunday, that darn post-grad work getting in the way! Read some stuff up on the game however, and am pretty pleased. I am very confident in our offense this year, and the 7-2 exhibition is a positive sign of that.

Losing Langer (and more specifically Mr. Clutch Kevin Bui) will certainly hurt, but gaining Quennevile and Anas, among others, are solid gets at forward to help fill the shoes. Add expanded roles for JST and TSD along with the senior campaigns of the Jones twins and Peca, I think we can all agree this offense has the potential to be scary.

The concern comes on the back-end with, as Rand called him "Gartsy" (not sure if I love that considering the likeness of that nickname to Hartzy), and the defensemen. At the end of last year, I was very impressed with both Tolkinen and Federico. Those two, paired with the additions of Clifton, Toews and possible emergence of Barron, Hilbrich, and Luczyk, keeps the defense promising. Mark, can you speak about the D-pairings you saw in the exhibition?

Ideally, this offense can put up close to four goals again, which would lend a little buffer-room for Garteig and the defensemen to operate.

While I am excited for tomorrow night, I can't wait for the Lowell home/home next week. Anyone else making the trip up there? I know Larson and ThxMuch won't be making it.

And thus ends my preseason post. Season is finally here boys, lets have at it! Go Bobcats!

Connor Clifton is a beast! Other than that, I didn't notice anything of concern. Of course, it was an exhibition against an inferior opponent so who knows what will happen when they get tested. I believe they will be ok... maybe not great, but nothing to worry about. I also think Gartieg is going to be stout. He looked very good Sunday. Fluid motion side to side, good positioning, and seemed to see the puck quite well. He came in touted as being the real deal, and I think he will be.

Anyone else making the trip up there?
The Mrs. and I are going up Friday.

I know Larson and ThxMuch won't be making it.
And they call themselves fans?

Game day in Alaska! Wish I was there...

Not sure what to expect tonight mainly because I'm not up to speed on the competition. Obviously, the trip out there is a long one so the home teams definitely have an edge, but our upperclassmen did go to Europe this summer so maybe they're already battle tested.

This weekend is huge as it will show a lot of what this team is made of. If the freshmen can buy into the systems right away I believe everything will be ok.

Good luck as the new season begins!

Go Q!

Nothing like a east coast midnight face-off.

Lowell just lost to Sacred Heart. Shocked, as many believed Sacred Heart was the worst team in the country. Now the Bobcats can't knock off the #1 team in the country next weekend:( I know it's early but this season is wide open, no clear favorite now.

Jeez! I'd hope there's no clear favorite, it's October 11!

Ugh! Obviously a little work to do. They weren't bad but the D was sloppy and the offense never got anything substantial established. Too many penalties as well.

Regroup and take it to Fairbanks tomorrow (later today?).
