Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

If Quinnipiac beats Brown tonight, this will go down as one of the best hockey weekends of my whole life. I'm still sweating from that USA-Russia game. My TJ Oshie jersey is on order.

Just a thought from the Yale game ... Michael Garteig finally has his swagger back.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

About to trek to Brown. Hope QU can bring a little better Saturday/road game this afternoon. Seems like Saturdays and road games have not been a great combo this season.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Also worth noting, I know QU's been in the top 5 of both all season, but how bout being the number 2 offense and the number 1 defense in the nation. Even last year... QU finished as only the number 20 offense.

Not bad for a rebuilding year, eh? ;)
Everyone involved from Rand down must be very happy.

Should be interesting to see if the Pieper brothers or the Renouf twins
can fill the Jones' shoes.

Taken to the wood shed by Brown in period one.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

I'm not sure, but I think the Bobcats got stuck at Ingalls last night. The team that beat Yale did not show up in Providence today. Terrible, terrible game. Hard to tell from the video but I don't think everything was Garteig's fault. Poor defensive effort and no offensive flow.

Credit Brown for putting together a game plan that thwarted everything we had. They just wanted it more. Second week in a row we play well Friday and don't show up Saturday.

So glad I didn't make the trip as I hear the roads out that way are brutal. To everyone traveling please drive safe.

Keeping everything in perspective, I guess games like today are to be expected with so many freshmen. However, the upperclassmen were non-factors in the game as well. Perhaps last night took more out of them than it appeared...

Nothing to be done about it now. Regroup and get ready for the final regular season weekend at home next week.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

As a fan, I'll take these types of weekends. There have always been issues of motivating players for YEARS when its not a marquee game. Whatever.

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

"Just think... they're only going to get better!"

Ehhh... plenty of players have had their best season in their first or second years with the program. Hope he's one of the exceptions though!

I'm not sure if they're going to be marquee games, but next weekend you're going to be facing two very pissed-off teams. God knows if Cornell will ever score again, but at least there will be no question of motivation after a crippling zero-point home weekend.

Next weekend will definitely be a challenge though we play much better at home this year than on the road.

We have also matched up very poorly against you recently. Of the two, I was really hoping we could steal points from Union because conversely we match well against them. Oh well; we're going to have to learn to beat you if we want to get anywhere in the post-season, so we might as well start figuring it out now. Or we could just follow our Yale strategy: absorb years of punishment until you fall apart someday. ;)

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

The loss to Brown hurt us more in the Pairwise than the win at Yale helped. That's the second week in a row we've beaten ranked teams and come Sunday have nothing to show for it. While not imperative, I think we need to take all 4 points next weekend at home.

We seem to have Cornell's number lately but they will be hungry after this weekend. Colgate is not the same team we thumped in Hamilton. It should make for some interesting hockey on senior weekend.

Like I told some other folks on here last night ... I am just about to be in full panic mode. If QU keeps dropping and Maine keeps moving up the two could see each other in the tourney ... Not good. I think they have to take two next weekend and probably at least one the following weekend. I used to be worried about not landing in Bridgeport or Worcester as a 1 seed, now I'm worried about just landing in the east. But like Dad said, going out west worked for Yale last year ...

Sole possession of 5th in this weeks poll, and 6th in the Pairwise. The poll doesn't matter but we need to get the Pairwise back up. The best way to do that? Win!

Re: 2013-14 Quinnipiac Bobcats: New season, new scoreboards, new chance at redemption

Chris Heisenberg lists a new recruit for Quinnipiac today. Tanner MacMaster of the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL. His page on the AJHL listed him as a Boston College recruit. Looks like he either decommited from BC to come to Quinnipiac or BC didn't want him anymore. He is a 1996 birthday. Probably a 2015-16 recruit. This year he has 11 goals and 29 assists in 46 games. Listed at 5'10 154 pounds. He just turned 18 and is draft eligible this year.
