2013-14 NHL Season - With a Wing and a Fehr

Re: 2013-14 NHL Season - With a Wing and a Fehr

Parents pay more for one stick that I paid for all of my equipment. ;)

Certainly true in my house. Everything my kid has is 3 or 4 times more expensive than what my stuff cost.

Except for skates. That's the one area that I'll splurge on myself.

Otherwise I stock up on the clearance racks. My current sticks were $34.95 each after being marked down 70% because the new model had a different paint job. I bought all 6 that they had left. ;)

Well magazines rolled up and taped to the shins don't cost much....
And following the horse around waiting for a puck to drop saves $$! ;)

I'm not quite that old :p

I used to stock up on wood sticks whenever I went back to Toronto. Never could get into the composites. In fact, every time a stick broke during one of our broadcasts, I'd always say "Wouldn't happen if he had a wood stick" or "Well Mrs. Smith, there's another two hundred down the drain."

Sadly, I've decided that it's time to hang up the skates after playing for more than 50 years. A combination of too many concussions, bad knees, pins in one ankle and my situation with that program I used to be associated with. :(

A couple of guys that I play with still use wood sticks (which of course I also used to play with) and they feel so heavy to me now.

Was looking back at a picture from only about 10 years ago and I was still using an aluminum shaft. Was joking, "What was that... a 500 flex?"

As far as the kid, I won't buy him a stick over $100 and he's fine (mostly) with that.

Sabres play-by-play guy Rick Jeanneret went between the benches last night. Called the game wearing a lid and holding a stick mic. :D

In what can only be described as a perfect metaphor for the Buffalo Sabres' season, their legendary play-by-play voice Rick Jeanneret was announcing Tuesday night's game from between the benches because the elevator at First Niagra Center couldn't get off the ground floor.

The elevator that runs to the press box was down earlier in the day in Buffalo's building and at the time Jeanneret joked that he would just have to do the game from between the benches. It didn't take long for the joke to become reality.

When the game began, there was Jeanneret next to Rob Ray in the broadcaster's section between the benches, protective mask and all.

Speaking of Buffalo....

Darcy Regier and Ron Rolston have both been fired as of this morning. Ted Nolan will be the interim head coach and Pat LaFontaine will be President of Hockey Operations...

Posted this over in one of the political threads but I figured it was worth a mention here. I took a Rasmussen poll yesterday. It started out asking about the economy etc, but then veered into the NHL. Specifically, was I planning to watch the Rangers-Bruins on NBC the day after Thanksgiving, did I watch football on Thanksgiving Day and would I watch hockey on Thanksgiving Day or stay with football. Could NBC be planning on challenging the NFL with a nationally televised game on Thanksgiving Day?

Re: 2013-14 NHL Season - With a Wing and a Fehr

Could be.I suppose it depends on which game they go up against. Now with the NFL channel also having a game it might make more sense to go against that network as they don't have the numbers that Fox and CBS have.

(Enjoy your vacation you medieval dick weed.)

Mr Kadri, its Mr. Shanaban again on line 1.

You're about to become a repeat offender in the span of one game.

I hope Heatley gives Kadri a ride to the airport. What a piece of ****. Doesn't deserve to be in the league.

He will use the classic "I should have been kicked out of the game after the first incident so the 2nd one should not count" defense. ;)
