Scott clearly said something Kessel didn't like right before they started. You can see he's speaking as they're lining up.

3 preseason games for Kessel. Ron Rolston was also fined for leaving Scott's line out on the ice...

Granted, Scott did goad him into it, but Kessel's relatively light punishment is also likely an acknowledgement of the fact that the Leafs are now without Clarkson for the first 10 games, and some of their other players are injured to start the year. Can't be depriving the Leafs of their star winger too, can we? Apparently Kadri nearly joined that mess, but Lupul held him back - imagine how hilarious it would be if he'd also earned an automatic 10 games. :p

The TOR-BUF lovefest continues Nov. 15th in Buffalo. ;)

Players Association approves the hybrid icing rule.
It's about time AFAIC

Hybrid icing will be in effect for the start of the 2013-14 NHL regular season after it was approved by the players, deputy commissioner Bill Daly said on NHL Live.

The NHLPA gave the go-ahead for the rule change that makes icing a race to an imaginary line across the faceoff dots instead of the puck, which was given a trial run during the pre-season. The goal is to prevent serious injuries, like the one that sidelined Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Joni Pitkanen for the entire season.

"I think it's good. It kind of brings the race a little bit further away from the end boards," Toronto Maple Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk said. "Once they do blow it or decide what to do with it, it gives you more time to react."
