2013-14 NHL Season - With a Wing and a Fehr

Fair enough. I just have a hard time believing that the Flames would have started something if Torts started the Sedins. The only real problem with any of this is Torts' behavior after the fact.

Why else would Hartley have started his 4th line thugs? And no...I don't buy his "they've been playing well for us lately" BS comment.

I don't either, especially when you factor in that after 2/3rds of them were ejected, and the Flames were down to 10 forwards, McGrattan still played only a total of 3 minutes in the game.
McKenzie Also tweeted something to the effect of that if Torts starts his top line and any of them get hurt (or worse in Henrick's case since he came in really banged up) that's likely a fireable offense and that he believes preety much every NHL coach would have matched lines the way Torts did.

So you honestly believe the Flames goon squad would have gone all slap shot on the Sedins? I think there was a 0% chance of that happening. It's clear to me now that the coaches have a history and Hartley knew exactly what buttons to push in order to get a rise out of Torts. It worked.

Considering Hartley's history, not just with Torts, but with goonery in general, it was not a 0% chance and that's the point.
Torts was not going to risk it, period.

In my opinion it was a 0% chance. I have no problem with Torts not risking it. That's not the issue. His behavior afterwards was the only issue.

Kellen Lain is currently averaging 27,000 PIM per 60 minutes of ice time.

That would quite possibly have been the best moment in the history of the NHL - ever! And if Kessler had been on the ice too?

I agree that wasn't gonna happen though.

Would have caused a bench clearing coz someone would have to go rescue the Bobbsey Twins (and their ugly little sister).

My theory is that Torts didn't want any more injuries to his skill players. He had already lost a Sedin, Santorelli, and Booth in the prior game against Phoenix. Santorelli has a broken shoulder thanks to Martin Hanzal; Tortorella (IMO) wasn't going to put his skill players in the position that Hartley wanted to.

And I call bullsh*t that if the skill players were out there the game would have started just fine. Westgarth jumped Kellan Lain on his way to the penalty box, AFTER fighting with Bieksa.

Re: 2013-14 NHL Season - With a Wing and a Fehr

The only thing that irks me about the whole situation is that I felt bad for Kellen Lain. I don't like feeling bad for a Canuck.

Re: 2013-14 NHL Season - With a Wing and a Fehr

If Torts starts the Sedins, he loses the team IMHO. He had to protect his guys. He didn't need to go looking for a fight in the locker room. That was wrong and he was punished accordingly.

To add to the Legend of Kellen Lain, he scored his first NHL goal last night. On his first (and currently only) shot on goal.

Although he dropped down and is now only averaging 166 PIM per 60 minutes played.

Best 2 game NHL debut ever....

All he needs is an assist for the fastest aggregate Gordie Howe hat trick in history.

The Rangers traded Michael Del Zotto for Kevin Klein. Can anyone tell me who that is? He's been in the NHL for like five years but I've literally never heard of him.

Always a good sign in a trade! I know nothing about him but I don't like trading away a 23 year old PMD (even if he does suck at times) for a 29 year old who I've never heard of. At first glance it looks like another Sather beautiful trade!

On the other hand, Del Z sucks.
