So we should be totally okay with players being injured because of the position of their heads?

Do I even need to explain why people would disagree with this? I'm not even going to argue that Orpik's hit wasn't clean or that Thornton wasn't out of his mind, BTW.

To lighten the mood in here...

Apparently the Panthers ran out of replacement glass...

So when they broke a section behind the net, they replaced it with what looks like a piece of wood or a board of some kind... Totally can't see through it...

I would think that some people are getting a refund on their tickets, ha ha...

Edit: Apparently that is glass... Just didn't unwrap the packaging from the glass, ha ha

Isn't that two minutes for boarding?

Since forever. Retaliation for legal "hard" checks is a big part of the problem.

That sounds like retaliation is the problem. If it's a legal hit they shouldn't get all butthurt about it. Or they can do something stupid and get suspended.

What did ben scrivens do to darryl sutter? Guy has been putting up monster numbers in quick's absence...now he can't get a game in.

Jones is riding quite the shutout streak...my guess is that's the reason.

EDIT: Well, he was anyway. Streak over.

If the Blackhawks can make it through the Western Conference, I hope they get to play Philly in the Finals.

The play of Antti Raanta in goal is a pleasant surprise. Must be a bit of surprise for the Hawks brass, too. Otherwise, why sign Khabibulin...

I don't know. His numbers are solid and he's won games and the proof is in the pudding, so to speak...

But he barely passes the eye test and I wouldn't be real comfortable with him in a playoff series. Loses his crease a bit and lets in too many soft goals. Just looks shaky at times.

Not saying he won't be good, but probably needs some more time in Rockford before he's NHL ready. Or at least starter ready in the event that Crawford gets/remains hurt.

He's clearly been better than Bulin though.

Maybe my expectations for Raanta were too low.

Given the loss of Emery in the offseason, who was terrific last year, I thought the well was dry in Rockford. It now appears the Hawks should be able to get by until Crawford gets healthy. I hope.

Agreed.

As for expectations, I've been reading what Hawks fans have been writing for the past several months and much like the backup QB on a team, the backup netminder is often the favorite player amongst certain fans.

Those people have faced reality a bit since seeing him play noting that he's a raw talent at this point.

Hope he keeps it up although if we continue to score 6+ per game, I'd guess just about any AHL goalie would do. ;)

Engelland gets a match penalty for the jaw shot to Abdelkader.

Shocking. Another dirty play by Pittsburgh. This will get what, a game or two?

I blame fighting. If it weren't for fighting, this never would have happened.

24/7 Red Wings-Maple Leafs started tonight on HBO. I love that, wish it was on longer. And holy moly Joffrey Lupul is a handsome man.

15 games for Thornton.

I'm still waiting for Matt Cooke to be suspended.

What about him? He used to be the dirtiest player in the league...hasn't been even close for the last 3 years, if you've been paying attention.

Thornton's hit is fine by me under the idea that the Penguins don't get punished for their actions. If you don't want that kind of justice meted out in this league then keep things even. Is that barbaric? Yes. Why should it be one way? Orpik was on the unfortunate end of bad NHL practice. Fair? No. But then again, it wasn't all that fair to Savard either.
