That was a completely clean hit. Regardless of who did it.

Also, it doesn't matter what egregious actions a player has taken in the past. You just don't punch a guy when he is on the ice and completely defenseless. Plain and simple.

I saw the hit too on replay and it looks OK or borderline. The point is, if you try to take someone out for the game or longer, you're asking for trouble. The other team will answer the challenge and for Orpik to turtle when Thornton challenged him led to this incident after Neal knee Marchand in the head. I understand hockey is a physical game but expect to get hit back if you take someone out. It's one thing to take the body when someone sees you coming but to do it when they don't see it coming leads to injuries and retaliation. Sure it is legal but it also leads to escalation of the violence that goes over the top too. Yeah I understand keep your head up ......

All of what happened is run of the mill NHL hockey, right up until he punched his head into the ice twice.

The dumbest comment from last night was from Jack Edwards opining that he was sad that we wouldn't see the Penguins again. Yeah, we just lost 3 players, Jack. I want to see more of that..

Lost in all of this is Ericksson's status. I haven't heard any updates.
Everything I've heard about Orpik is positive, fortunately.

I didn't realize we lost a 3rd player. A broken ankle to Kelley by a slash from Dupruis ??? It'll be interesting what Shanahan and Bettman decides. Each time we play them, how many more will be injured ??? It's one thing to play hard and physical but to intentionally injure someone to knock them of the game is what's wrong with this game, and a need to have a Thornton on the team.

I hope when Thornton talks to Shanaban he pops in a replay of that vicious cheap shot by Phaneuf tonight that knocked Miller out of the game...and for which Dion served exactly 0 minutes.

Tonight's cheap shots are relevant to Thornton's cheap actions last night? Both of them should get the same treatment.

They already haven't. Thornton got a match penalty, is suspended indefinitely and has an in-person hearing scheduled. Phaneuf got... nothing. Justice?

San Jose scores one goal on 38 shots while the Wild score three on 13, The third tally being an empty netter. Odd, but I'll take it.

Yes, that's exactly what I said.

Thornton is looking at 10 games, possibly as many as 15. He deserves that penalty. However, I can't help but wonder how many teammates he is supposed to watch get concussions, broken ankles and have their careers ended with hardly a hint of punishment from the league before he takes matters into his own hands.
