2012 regionals awarded

Re: 2012 regionals awarded

Why not host a regional at BC? They have the second largest capacity in HE behind only UMASS. UMASS has a better arena but it is to far out. Even if it is a year BC doesn't make it in you would still have the possibility of another HE school making it and bringing in a good crowd.

the US pays off 13 trillion in debt before this happens.........

94 miles (from Boston) is "too far out"?
Yikes:eek:
The New Englanders' mindframe with regards to traveling never ceases to amaze me :p ;)
There are people around here that travel nearly that far every day to get to work.
Try the WCHA / CCHA / Air Force travel schedules on for size, then tell us what is "too far out". :D ;)

Don't forget that Amherst hosted a regional back in 2005 (BSU took eventual national champ Denver to OT). My comments on Amherst and Mullins Center: I loved the town. My traveling party checked into the hotel as soon as we got into town and asked where we could get seafood, and the guy at the desk said, "There aren't any - It's not like we're near the ocean." Also, we had talked about driving to the regionals in Worchester after the afternoon games in Amherst (what, and hour away?), and everyone told us it was way too far to drive...

As to the rink, all I can say is that it's a nice basketball arena. I went to cover the game as press, and the hockey press box was a joke, and there was literaly no way to get from there to the locker-room or the interview areas without walking through the stands.

That's great! :D

I myself have never been to the Mullins Center in Amherst. After all, it's just SOOOOO far away (approx. 320 mi.) :D :D :p ;)

In perspective--I'll go to the NMU/Tech and NMU/Lake State away games because they are the closest away games we'll get for the year. Houghton is 100 miles from Marquette, Sault Ste. Marie is 160 miles.
And, the only reason I didn't make the trip to see NMU at the St. Paul regional this year was that I had taken the previous weekend off to go to the Final 5.

I'd love it if I was in an area where a 94 mile trip is too far out. Then again, I'd probably go completely bankrupt with all the hockey trips.

If you really want to get anal about travel distance, Bemidji State just left a conference where the closest road trip was 1072 miles (BSU to Niagara) to join a conference where the closest is now 115 miles (BSU to NoDak) - and all anyone can talk about is how many more visiting fans we'll get into town (and not just from UND, but also UMD, SCSU, Minn, MSU, MTU, UNO and UWisc)!

Let me tell you, it's pretty awesome to be sitting around one night while your team is either off, or on a distant road trip, and just say, "I think I'll go to a game tonight," and have multiple games to pick from.

Hell, you can drive into Boston, and have a handful of choices.

It is extremely not particularly bad.

Re: 2012 regionals awarded

Just more proof that all fans from HE and EZAC are gigantic ****ing *******.

Re: 2012 regionals awarded

I went to every BU game last season and the longest trip was 245 miles. Just thought I'd rub that in all you western fans' faces. :D

Re: 2012 regionals awarded

Getting out of work at 5 on a Friday night, I can make it to a game at Lowell (obviously), Merrimack, BU, BC, Northeastern, UNH, Providence, and maybe even Amherst before game time. Love New England hockey. :D

i dont care what our western brethren say about us but the ride to amherst from anywhere in the boston area on a friday night especially is horrific...........at best

When that 94 miles can take 4 hours if you there's an accident on the Mass Pike, yes, it's too far. Especially when there are far better options that are less than half that distance. Why travel into the middle of nowhere with a small, albeit very nice, town when you can stay in the Boston/Manchester area?

The key is leaving by 3. Just go to a restaurant or bar once you get to Amherst. If you leave by 3, it'll take you less than 2 hours. Wait till 3:30 and have fun sitting in traffic.

i'll do just that or even leave a bit earlier.......... and when you arrive at the Mullins Center, after 3-4 or so hours in the bar, well, you'll blend in just fine;)

And all of this only takes the local fans into account. I'm pretty sure non-locals, who would most likely have to fly in, would rather see games in Boston or Manchester.
