Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Life aint fair. Deal with it.

Those who waste time trying to make it equal for everyone are ****ing into the wind

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Thanks for the math correction.

Here's my final observation (this is not a criticism): There is nowhere in the world where every individual is born into an absolute equal level of opportunity.

Here's the criticism: Do we want to live in that world? If so, how do we create it?

Here's my caveat: I don't want to spread wealth. I'm not a communist. I want to spread opportunity. Does that make me an opportunist?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a person choosing to spread opportunity. After all, it's because of those "opportunists", as you call it, that we don't have defined classes and people can earn their way up and down without having to use the words "I do". I applaud your desire to give people a chance, especially if you believe in that person's ideas so much that you want to give them a chance. I don't agree with giving someone a chance for the sake of being a person because I would want someone who can bring something to the table to improve the both of us, but if you want to sell that to me, I will at least listen.

Plan B just pulled from the floor for lack of votes.

Plan C (for cliff) is awaiting it's chance.

A penny saved is a penny earned.

I've never understood this one. Wouldn't a penny saved merely be a portion of one's earnings that they didn't spend?

If you normally earn X and spend Y, your net worth is W = X-Y. If you spent a penny less, your net worth would be W = X - (Y - .01), which is exactly the same as if you'd earned a penny more W = (X+.01) - Y.

Republican House of Representatives is a laughingstock. What a bunch of d ! ckheads. How is Obama supposed to negotiate with people who can't even pass a bill amongst themselves, let alone a compromise with the Democrats? The Boner needs to align with Pelosi on a bill, bring along 20 fellow geezers for old times sake to get it passed, and then resign. The guy's now officially useless.

Maybe it goes to show that they don't want to negotiate. Quite frankly, Taxmageddon should have went into effect the second the unconstitutional super congress failed to come up with a deal. I'd rather see Taxmageddon happen. Congress wanted it? Congress gets it, and everything that goes with it.

an exception, not a rule.

Congratulations on showing the arrogance of those who don't want to do something about their situation and instead whine about it. This is exactly why we are in the situation the country is in now.

Should have called a vote and got them on record. Man up

you really are a dumb ***. Someone that grows up poor is much more likely to be poor themselves. Education isn't equitable. Opportunity isn't equitable. You can't deny that. Some make it, many don't. If you're born rich, you can pay someone to manage your money and make millions sitting on your ***. Trying to argue some inner city kid and Mitt Romney's kid have the same opportunity to get rich is idiotic.

I grew up in a middle class home and my parents paid for me to go to a public university out of pocket (minus a couple merit scholarships I had for my freshman year), so I was able to graduate with no debt. I admit I had more opportunity than many. I am a software engineer, and I could certainly have become rich (still can, I'm 33) by picking the right startup to work for, or starting my own company -- but more often than not that doesn't work out (I have one coworker that went through at least 3 bioinformatics startups in the late 90s/early 2000s with nothing to show). Instead I chose to work in biomedical research at a non-profit research lab largely because of location (I can walk out my office and be hiking in a national park in 10 minutes) and the mission. I still make more than both of my parents did combined. I'm not making any excuses for why I'm comfortably middle class (6 figure household income), but to deny that someone born rich has more opportunity is foolish. Poor people that stay poor aren't always lazy.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Bass Ale is correct. Its always the people who had to earn it that are the most generous, while those born on 3rd base who thought they hit a triple to get there are the ones whining about paying a slightly higher rate.

I often think of my now 94 year old grandfather who went through the Depression and WWII saying that he doesn't mind giving up a little more to help out while whiny-@ ss boomers and their accolytes act like any raise in tax rates is akin to giving up your first born child.

No surprise, but here we see that Rover has managed to learn a big ZERO ZIP NADA from four days of lectures on one subject. Everyone else can easily fill in this blank: "There are ______ to every rule." What a pinhead!

Personally I like this turn of events. While some may feel sympathy with The Boner, I don't. If you dance with the devil, don't complain if you get burned. Problem is GOP lunatics only know how to say no. When saying no means playing in the Dems hands, they still can't adjust. I'm not sure why the true statement of: Either you raise taxes on wealthy people or everybody's taxes go up isn't penetrating their thick skulls, but whatever. Not my side's problem. :D

Geezer no offense but I wouldn't believe a lecture from you on whether rain is wet or not, let alone something of actual substance. ;)
