2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

With all this talk from conservative leaning posters about getting treatment for mental illness, one wonders if these same posters are now on board with the Afforadable Care Act and its provision that everybody have insurance....
Ha, not a chance.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

So gun purchasing is on the rise. But its interesting to see how that's happening...

The number of households owning guns has declined from almost 50% in 1973 to just over 32% in 2010, according to a 2011 study produced by The University of Chicago's National Opinion Research Center.

A 2007 survey by the U.N's Office on Drugs and Crime found that the United States, which has 5% of the world's population, owns 50% of the world's guns.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

The larger point being that no matter HOW many laws we pass declaring that "hereby and forthwith, all insurance will be free of charge to all the pipples of the earth, spreading goodwill and cheer and an end to hardship henceforth", let me break it to you gently, healthcare is still going to cost money. No matter how we spread those costs around ("Soak the rich!") they are likely to keep increasing overall. The free health care myth is just that, a myth. Ain't going to happen. You're just passing the buck to someone else. But sooner or later, at this rate, we'll run out of rich people.
A better approach might be to actually reduce the costs by reducing unnecessary tests, etc. (death panels, anyone? Why not?)

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

I have a fix, get folks the mental health treatment they need, that's where the problem is

but don't raise my taxes to pay for it!!!!!!

Wasn't it the republicans, starting with Reagan, that totally dismantled public mental health care (and you can't expect the mentally ill to pay for their own care since often they are unemployed)?? Reagan's policies (and the policies the GOP has continued since his administration) have been terrible for our country. He was also the start of the spend more, cut taxes, and run up the deficit policies that are now so entrenched in Washington that neither party can change them.

Rover? Is that you?

No, but now that we've firmly beaten to death the fact that the blame for everything can be laid at the feet of Ronald Reagan and/or the evils of Christianity, when is it OK to start at least thinking about moving on to actual solutions? It's getting old. Reagan served what 30 years ago? Sorry, but he's not running again.

fixing things requires money. Mental Healthcare isn't free. Taxes need to go up.

Wait a second, someone else who understands there's no such thing as a free lunch? *does a Billy Dee Williams impersonation*

I'm only cool with the death panel if you have a way to buy yourself out. If you want to buy the operation, by all means do so. If you can't afford it, roll the dice with the death panel.

Thank you. You're right. This fact has also been publicly made known for over a year, and the one person pushing for it has been reelected, let's get it done.
How are some people still in denial?

(and let's face it, if you're still against paying more taxes let's go ahead and cut military spending in half as a start on the deficit)

Gee kofi, we also use a disproportionately high % of electricity... Do you want us to go dark too?

You realize the D has won 4 of the last six? Forget Reagan. D has had power and done ka ka. But keep blaming Ronnie :D

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Barely half? I need to stock up!
Stand in line, their isn't a so called assault rifle to be had anywhere. When they call the FBI line for background checks they are getting busy signals

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Just take the money from Social Security. That's where we get it for everything else.
Start making folks who earn over 115,000 pay on that income and we could

When I was at Cabelas earlier this week, there were about 15 people waiting for the background checks to go through. I had to wait for almost 2 hours. When I went to the Sheriff's office yesterday, there were 4 other people there at the same time, in the middle of the day, filling out forms for purchase permits or conceal and carry permits.

No, but it brought a tear to my eye! ;)

Its funny how a party that wanted to bring up the Reagan vs Carter election in 1980 as the model for how the 2012 election would play out now no longer wants to talk about Ronbo. What gives?

Re: 2012 Presidential Election - The Day after the Aftermath...

Yeah, that'll happen. We just had the conservatives complain about paying the social security tax in the other thread. I guess they're incapable of figuring out that AGAIN I pay a higher percentage of my income to Social Security than someone making 250,000 or more. Or, even the 115 number you used.

So, the more likely solution is to increase the percentage on the 115 and below. We can't charge the folks making more than that because those folks create jobs.
