Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

That's been the case since day one. Good luck convincing any of the "conservatives" around here.

Michigan is as much of a toss-up as Montana or Arizona.

Put another way, Michigan, Montana, and Arizona don't matter. They are not tipping point states. If the "unexpected" candidate wins in those states, that candidate will have won in a landslide.

Yes, a Romney landslide.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Like I've said a 1000 times. Romney's a lock.

You and Karl Rove agree. :D
My prediction: Sometime after the cock crows on the morning of Nov. 7, Mitt Romney will be declared America's 45th president. Let's call it 51%-48%, with Mr. Romney carrying at least 279 Electoral College votes, probably more.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Yes, it will be nice for the election to be over soon so all this bickering and blame shifting can stop. Unfortunately the whining and accusations from the losing side will begin. Hope that won't take too long.

It will definitely be nice for the election to be over. I have people stopping at my door from both campaigns literally several times/day. A Romney guy will come by looking for me, then 10 minutes later another Romney person will stop by looking for my wife. At least the Obama people tend to ask for both of us in one visit. Then of course you get the other groups that aren't associated with the campaigns...it is quite frustrating. I would guess that on a given day over the past week, we have averaged 5 visitors/day asking about the election. Then I go to the mailbox and I have 6 or 7 flyers from the different campaigns/groups every day. Then to make it worse, last night about 100 hippy liberals all dressed up came by yelling "trick or treat"...I naturally assumed that they meant Romney would play a trick if elected, while Obama would be the treat...they seemed satisfied with candy. Which gives me an idea about what to do about anybody who stops by today :p:D:D

I've only had one guy come to my door. No phone calls or anything. Probably because my district is a lock for the Conservatives.

Oh, and I think we need another tax cut (more than Mitt Romney's) so we can bank enough cash to pay for all these natural disasters that seem to be happening.

My district is certainly a lock for Conservatives, but obviously Colorado is seen as a key swing state for both parties. Fortunately, I don't have a land-line, so I don't get called.

"Bronco Bama"...that could go over very well here in Colorado...girl must have been a Raider fan :p:D:D

My 70+ mother-in-law had a slip during the last election and referred to him as "Iraq Bahama."

My wife and I still giggle about that. :D

I have had, probably every other day, a mailing for assembly (Miller). It's paid for by the New York State Republican Committee, and I'm not even registered as a Republican.

The guy that came to my door is one of those Republican at all costs types. Believes in amending the Constitution on voter laws and gay marriage, borrowing from the schools to balance the budget, etc. His campaign has sent me probably 20 fliers in the mail. I told him when he came to my door that I disagreed with him on almost everything. If he wants to waste his money I guess it's his campaign.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Been a bit confused on early voting with each side claiming victory. Although its not clear how they allocate Dem vs. GOP, Fox has best indications pretty clearly spelled out:

Colorado:

Votes: 1.1 million

Democrats: 35 percent

Republicans: 38 percent

Florida

Votes: 2.7 million

Democrats: 43 percent

Republicans: 41 percent

Iowa

Votes: 532,000

Democrats: 44 percent

Republicans: 32 percent

Nevada

Votes: 533,000

Democrats: 44 percent

Republicans: 38 percent

North Carolina

Votes: 1.9 million

Democrats: 49 percent

Republicans: 32 percent

Ohio

Votes: 1.3 million

Democrats: 30 percent

Republicans: 24 percent

The party affiliation in Ohio is based on the last primary in which a voter participated.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Looks like a win for Mittens. The gap is usually wider in early voting. Can't wait for my tax cut.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Thought this was a good analysis:

Mike Allen: "Both sides are nervous, but Republicans are MORE nervous. They don't find it particularly encouraging that Mitt Romney was in Florida yesterday and will be in Virginia today - two states the campaign would love to have put away by now. Is Romney's 'expand-the-map' drive... a sign of confidence, or a Hail Mary frenzy because of trepidation about Ohio? The correct answer: It's mainly an effort to project confidence at a time when Republicans fear a slow-motion reversal of fortune."

Regarding early voting, my own take is NV, IA, and OH are looking good for the Dems. GOP much stronger in CO than I expected. FL started in person voting this week where absentee ballots (usually military voters) have been a larger portion of the total. Need to see where Dems are at after Saturday on that.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

We've been getting a lot of calls for the Flake-Carmona race, as well as some statewide ballot propositions. And I've gotten both calls and e-mails from Paul Penzone, who is running against Sheriff Joe. Not sure how he got ahold of my e-mail address. We just turn the ringers off on our phones in the evening, as all the ringing doesn't help with getting the little one to sleep. And some of the calls come surprisingly late in the evening.

Oh, and there's a constant stream of green energy sales calls, telling me there is a lot of federal money available and they'll help me tap into it. Maybe Obama gave the green energy companies an exemption from the no call list?
