Re: 2012 Poser of the Year Round 5: Finals

What I find a bit fascinating is there are 17,881 members on this board and so far only a total of 38 votes. That has to be some sort of statement.;)
It's an off-year election cycle. Turnout is always down.

Re: 2012 Poser of the Year Round 5: Finals

I'd like to remind anyone getting excited over the results that PotY is NOT and should never be considered an honor. ;)

Re: 2012 Poser of the Year Round 5: Finals

I think the fact that RB was at one time trailing 9-0 shows how important it is to be able to come from behind.;) Sorry-I should have put that one onto the pun thread.:o

Re: 2012 Poser of the Year Round 5: Finals

and now for something completely different!

[there's no BBC thread...]

Here is a friendly suggestion to whomever is going to manage this process next time. Someone has the data right now of total post count. Store that somewhere safe. In fact, if you want to upload it to a file-sharing site, I'll go there and download it in order to preserve it for next year.

Then, next year, we (I'll help, or not, whichever) download the new total post count. Then subtract former from latter to get total posts for the year. Then we use THAT top 100.

That to me sounds simpler than re-naming the election "Poser of the Time Period from When They Started Posting Until Now" doncha think? ;)

Re: 2012 Poser of the Year Round 5: Finals

No. And if RalphPa wins it this year, the PoTY again becomes less meaningful to why it was created in the first place. :(

Because that's not how it works...

This is true. Except for the rampant post count padding, Ralph doesn't really do anything.

No. We're not altering how this works to let in people with 100 posts who happened to be tools around tournament time. This is all about longevity.

The PoTY regulations are like the Ten Commandments. They. Just. Don't. Change. You don't like it? Create your own election.

I agree-although not sure I like the one about not being able to covet my neighbor's wife.

Re: 2012 Poser of the Year Round 5: Finals

RalphPa winning brings a dignity and intelligence to PoTY. thats not a good thing is it?

Hmm....in the political threads, the progressives say that the conservatives are hidebound traditionalists; and the conservatives say that the progressives impose a rigid authoritarian orthodoxy. Maybe it's deeper than that? people just don't like others messing with their stuff?

Your comment about the Ten Commandments somehow reminds me of George Carlin's great, great routine in which he edits them down to two.

Here is my problem with the ten commandments- why exactly are there 10?

You simply do not need ten. The list of ten commandments was artificially and deliberately inflated to get it up to ten. Here's what happened:

About 5,000 years ago a bunch of religious and political hustlers got together to try to figure out how to control people and keep them in line. They knew people were basically stupid and would believe anything they were told, so they announced that God had given them some commandments, up on a mountain, when no one was around.

You're really over thinking PotY and the capacity of time and effort people have for putting into this think.

I'll now vote Kodos.
