2012 NFL Season: 15 Yard Penalty For Playing Football (c)

Re: 2012 NFL Season: 15 Yard Penalty For Playing Football (c)

And what are they going to do with it? Is it Teo Time?

EDIT: Oh, man. 4 picks. Ouch.
They had 11 picks going into the draft. So long as there aren't other trades to make, they leave with 8 overall picks. I like the move, but I'm not so sure about the pick itself. I'm just glad it wasn't T'eo, or however that guy's name is spelled.

And the picks were all this year's. I like it.

They needed a receiver, they liked Patterson. Obviously, they felt as though he wouldn't be around for their next pick.

Time to stock up on ticker tape? ;)

Plain and simple, this draft is boom or bust for Minnesota. Might wok out awesome, might hurt long term.

They got three guys who can play right away, although Patterson is still raw.

Travis Frederick said he was surprised the Cowboys picked him because, in his words, "I thought I was a second-round offensive lineman." :)

I like the move by the Vikings. They got 3 impact players, and they still have like 5 more picks later in the draft, to build depth. What are they going to do with 11 picks anyway? Not all of those would even make the team.

Exactly. They still have 5 more picks; instead of a 2nd and a 3rd rounder, the wanted Patterson. I'm okay with them gettin three guys who can play right away.

Agreed. They addressed three needs, yet still picked arguably the best available players talent-wise. They gave up a lot, but it shows that the team is committed to winning in the near future (and as you mentioned, they had some firepower to work with). Given the age of the team at certain positions, I think the Vikings probably have about a 3 year window to make a run. I'd like to see the team compete for the division and a playoff spot this season. Then hopefully 2014-2015 are back to back seasons where making deep runs in the Playoffs should be the goal.

It's going to be weird though. Minnesota may actually have an NFL-caliber passing attack this season. No excuses for Ponder this season. If he plays the way he did the last 4 games, I think the Vikings can win 10-12 games. If he plays the way he did @Chicago and @Green Bay (or vs. Tampa or @ Seattle)...well...who's the top QB prospect in next year's draft? :p:D:D

Wait, hold on, a guy from Central Michigan went #1 overall? Are they even D-IA?

They are part of the bowl subdivision...yes. The Chippewas play in the MAC. He becomes the first player taken #1 from a non-BCS school since Alex Smith in 2005.

Also in that group during the Super Bowl Era:
2002 - David Carr (Fresno State)
1974 - Ed Jones (Tennessee State)
1973 - John Matuszak (Tampa)
1970 - Terry Bradshaw (Louisiana Tech)

Don't you mean "Who's the crusty old veteran QB that might have 2 years left in his arm for a heart-wrenching NFC Title game loss run?"

Sounds more like the Vikings, that's for sure. Do you think Michael Vick will wear #7? :p:D:D

...and the Lions take a guy who may or may not have a right knee. That's a good job outta them.

Re: 2012 NFL Season: 15 Yard Penalty For Playing Football (c)

Geno Smith, drafted five minutes ago and not even under contract to the New York Jets, just guaranteed a playoff appearance in 2013. I'm not kidding.

In the second round Denver drafted Montee Ball from Wisconsin. The Broncos plan on using him in the backfield with Lance Ball. That'll give the team a pair of balls.
