2012 NCAA FBS National Championship Tournament

Re: 2012 NCAA FBS National Championship Tournament

Capital One Bowl? The Capital One Bowl is usually between a very good Big Ten and SCC team.

1998 January 1, 1999 Michigan 45 Arkansas 31
1999 January 1, 2000 Michigan State 37 Florida 34
2000 January 1, 2001 Michigan 31 Auburn 28
2001 January 1, 2002 Tennessee 45 Michigan 17
2002 January 1, 2003 Auburn 13 Penn State 9
2003 January 1, 2004 Georgia 34 Purdue 27 (OT)
2004 January 1, 2005 Iowa 30 LSU 25
2005 January 2, 2006 Wisconsin 24 Auburn 10
2006 January 1, 2007 Wisconsin 17 Arkansas 14
2007 January 1, 2008 Michigan 41 Florida 35
2008 January 1, 2009 Georgia 24 Michigan State 12
2009 January 1, 2010 Penn State 19 LSU 17
2010 January 1, 2011 Alabama 49 Michigan State 7

Still not playing for the NC. In fact completely irrelevant to the NC picture.

These games are still watched and college football fans enjoy watching match ups like the Capital One Bowl.

So why would they stop watching it if a playoff were instituted? It'll have as much meaning then as it does now.

I entirely missed the point.:p I agree with you that it wouldn't kill any of the bowls. :o

Because the better teams will go to the playoffs and leave the better bowls like the Capital One Bowl with getting teams that would normally be playing for say the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl, or at the Pinstripe Bowl.

It's not like it's a 64 team tournament. Even if you go with 16 teams, with all conference winners getting an autobid, that's only 5 at large. Matchup would be similar to what it is now.

I've got news for you, neither Nebraska nor South Carolina would be a playoff team this year...

Right, but if its even just an 8 team playoff, those top teams are going to the playoffs. If you want to screw around to where those big bowls have a tie in to the playoffs, fine, but would rather just see em hosting the games on campus. If you don't bother with tying the playoffs to the big BCS bowls, then you got 8 big teams that are not in the BCS bowls. The BCS Bowl won't be played then as they're not picking the "NC" anymore. So you'll have the Rose taking the second best teams from the Big Ten and the PAC, Which would be Michigan and Stanford I guess. The Sugar and the Orange Bowls would be likely upset because LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas would all likely be in the playoffs, so they would have Georgia and South Carolina to pick. And the Fiesta gets what, Kansas State and some also ran from the Big East, or would they still be able to take somebody who would at least be interesting like Boise or Houston?? What I'm saying is that the big bowls will do ok, but those smaller bowls are going to start seeing some real dogs in a hurry due to the lack of teams that would qualify for a bowl, and that would make it worth their while in actually having a bowl game for fans to travel too. There's a lot of schools out there that would be lucky to draw 10,000 to a game that's less than 500 miles away from the school.

Basically everyone would move up one spot in the bowl order compared to where they are now and the 4 or 5 of the lower tear bowls would be cut, it wouldn't really change anything about the profitability of the bowls.
