2012 Golf Season - No matter how you slice it, it's still fun.

Lower center of gravity, more loft in most cases, lighter and more forgiving with a larger sweet spot.

That said, I can't stand 'em. Tried to hit 'em, couldn't do it. Maybe it's the conservative traditionalist in me, but I can't stand looking down at them. But for a mid to high handicapper, they're awesome. Even the pros love 'em. But seeing I love hitting 3 iron stingers off of the tee into the Lake Superior winds, I have no use for them.

I'm in the same boat. I'm actually looking at getting a 5W to replace mine since its probably smarter than going back to my 2i.

Speaking of replacements: Anyone have the Vokey or Cleveland wedges with the new grooves? Thoughts, reviews and criticisms are appreciated. Looking to replace a few/drop one and add a 3 metal (depending on course, of course).

I was pretty excited to get the CG 15's when they came out. The zip groove technology is kinda a gimmick IMO. The new wedges wear really fast, they tear up any ball softer than a prov x, and I could not control the spin at times. I would be in the rough and be getting 10 yards of backspin. That's not golf. I sold them to a buddy and went back to the CG 10.

EDIT: I haven't heard anything about the new Vokey grooves.

I've got the new (non-square) grooves in my Vokey 60* and I hate them. Its amazing how much more spin my older 56* has coming into the green. I got it last year so I don't know if Vokey has made improvements since.

My vokeys are three Years old and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

weather forecast for monday is the suck.. which blows because there was an event at kittansett club planned for then. looks like i won't be signing up to shiver in the rain and fog and wind.

Played a links style course yesterday. Well it wasn't designed to be, but the course was so horribly maintained that the rough was like St. Andrews. Learned a lesson -- if you hit it into the high rough, DO NOT attempt to do anything optimistic with the next shot. Just get it into the fairway with the next shot with a high # iron and then see what you got.

ALLELUIA!!!!!

Played the local 9 hole course and had a great partner who pointed out that my left shoulder was flying open on the swing (= slice). Once I closed the shoulder, VOILA!!! straight shots.
2 pars and a quintuple bogey (9 on a par 4).

My short irons were good, but I had trouble with the putter on long shots. Some were too short, some were too long. Time and practice will improve that.

Use a very loose grip. I mean very loose. Let the club do the work for you in the rough.

Lag putting well will save you 5+ strokes a round.

Shot 75 on Monday, 40-35. My tempo is best it's been this year, and it makes all the difference.

Look at the hole when you take your practice strokes. I virtually eleminated 3-putts when I started doing that.

Talked to fellow golfers and read your advice here. Since my iron play stinks worse than a pile of dog poo, I bit the bullet and went to Dicks tried out and bought a set of Adams A05 OS Hybrids and Irons (3H - 5H and 6-PW) for $300. Took them to the driving range today and the ball went pretty good off the mat. I'm trying them out on the 9 hole course on Tuesday and the 18 holer on Thursday.

I'll keep you posted.

Golf club purchase completed, thanks all for the input. A lot of swings went into the decision, and it came down to the Taylor Made Burner 2.0 and Callaway Razr X irons. In the end, I felt most comfortable sticking with Callaway and opted for the Razr X irons with the 3 and 4 hybrids. Now, next step is to take them for a test drive out on the range and get some yardages dialed in.

Next week I'm going to be hitting the Rocketballz driver..everyone I know loves it.

18 (hold the jokes please people!). I hit the RBZ with both a stiff and regular flex steel shaft. Not sure if there was a more specific model.

Did get to the range last night for a practice session with the new irons. Had 2 large buckets of balls and at first, as I expected, I wasn't really hitting them all that stellar. Made a few minor adjustments to my grip, which has probably been dogging me all season so far, and started hitting some pure iron shots with a nice draw to them.

Really liking the hybrids too, I set a few balls up just outside of the hitting area at the range in some rough-type grass and was crushing the ball from there. Now I want to get out and play a round, see if I can take these corrections to the course.

I haven't really had time to look into it, but I just kind of assumed there would be a RBZ tour style and a player performance style, and if you were hitting the tours, they'd be a lot tougher to hit.
