2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

I would say half will be split between Ferris and Union. The other half will be rooting for a meteor strike.

:D:D Hilarious...

From a purely stats perspective (I have not had a chance to watch Union play), you guys most certainly belong. Love that all 4 teams have fantastic goaltending. Patty, Milner, Nelson and the 'G' man--> Grosenick (no idea how to spell his name) for Union. Obviously could not go wrong with any of those guys as the backstopper for your team.
You spelled it right. If you think that's tough, how about d-man Gostisbhehere?

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

I'm hoping to see a clean game. After watching some of the UND/Minny game, I'm hoping it doesn't get chippy. I'd like to see both teams skating hard and a clean checking game. Up and down action for 60 minutes.

That game yesterday was tremendously clean by typical UND/UM standards, although UND didn't lack in effort.

For BC, is there another 'Minnesota-like' team they've faced?

And for Minnesota, is there another 'BC-like' team they've similarly faced?

I keep seeing reference to BC's 'four lines' and am wondering whether Minnesota also has that kind of depth.

Scoring by line per the starting lineup against UND:

1st 120 2nd 100 3rd 62 4th 19

Pretty sure though UM has no chance either way.

First of all, I am still honoring the longstanding BC/MN Alliance, so no talking smack from this BC fan ;)

As for the game, you'd have to be a complete idiot to think MN doesn't have a decent chance of winning. I see both teams as having pretty equal talent, though with BC having the slight edge in net. Where I think BC does have an advantage is big game experience as much of their lineup has already won a National Title and several league titles. Plus their roster isn't so top heavy with Freshmen and Sophmores. MN rolled over the competition up in St Paul, but am not so sure they'll be quite as dominating so far away from home. I think you also have to give BC the edge in coaching. BC is almost certainly going to be favored, but MN could very easily win this game, do't kid yourselves...

This Minnesota team is not the same as last year at all, not taking anything away from Union, I'm just saying it really is a different squad.

Oh I know I live in Minnesota and from here as well. So I know they arent the same team as last year, but they do have a lot of same players except you know have Rau, Marshall, Warning and I suppose Ambroz

A lot of the same players, but guys like Haula and Bjugstad (both with 40+ pts) really stepped up their game (among others). Nate Schmidt got little playing time last year, and this year has been a 40+ pt defenseman. And, as you mentioned, adding guys like Rau (also with 40+ pts), Marshall, and Warning to the mix.

I was at the X for the Western Regional and Minnesota played well against the Souix but I think they had some extra incentive from the loss last week.I only saw the 3rd period of the UMD BC game and from what i saw if they get the goaltending that they got in that game BC wins by 3.They were outshot by UMD 33-24 and kept UMD at bay while still playing offensive hockey.Their D did'nt allow second chances around the net and they were effective moving the puck and limiting odd man rushes. The Gophers have some speed but BC's D were always back and there forwards were backchecking very well which helped their transition game tremendously.I think it will be a good game I say 5-2 mt netter at the end.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

There's being favored, and then there's being far and away the best team in the country. And second best isn't even in their rearview.

Could anything happen? Sure. But if you've seen BC play in the past, I don't know, two and a half months, I'm not sure how anyone who isn't wearing homer glasses (NTTAWWT) wouldn't pick Jerry York's Killbot Factory.

The 1996-97 Michigan team, among others, stops by to say hi. That team was 35-3-4 going into the Frozen Four, and was loaded to high heaven, probably the 2nd best NCAA team I've ever seen (second to '92-'93 Maine). I'll give you one good guess as to what happened to them in the semis.

Having said that, even though I have a dog in this fight (all puns intended), and having seen what I have out of all four teams, if you're a fan without a team here you'd have to be straightjacket silly not to be putting your chips on Boston College.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

Heck, you don't have to look any further than the 2011 BC squad. That was pretty much the exact same team (with an extra years experience) that absolutely arse raped Miami and UW by a combined score of 12-1 in the 2010 FF and was definitely more talented than this years squad, yet they got blown out by CC in the first round! Ditto with the 2007 BC team. When they destroyed UND in the semi game, I was certain they would kill MSU in the final; look how that turned out....

Or what about the 99 UND team. They had too many superstars to even name, yet somehow BC went out west and beat them.

BC looked impressive against UMD, and UMD is a good team. However, it wasn't that long ago that UMD got shutout, at home, by Michigan Tech 5-0. No disrespect to Tech, and not saying the Gophers haven't wet their own bed a few times this year, but Minnesota and UMD are different teams. Both very high scoring teams, but Minnesota is a better defensive team. No doubt BC is the favorite, and should be, but this Gopher team is rolling right now. Should be a great game!

What's nice too is that it looks like both teams will be healthy for this matchup.

Not that long ago that exact same Tech team took BC down to the wire, and lost when the game tying goal was disallowed in a questionable call.

Re: 2012 Frozen Four: Union vs. Ferris State; Minnesota vs. Boston College

BC vs. Minnesota is a game I've wanted to see for years. The other one is meh. I just can't see anyone beating this BC team right now. It's going to be a great game to watch.

I haven't gone through the rest of this thread, so if this has already been said I apologize:
I think the vast majority of the hockey world was saying the same thing about UND last year.

BC clearly is the favorite. But in the NCAA Frozen Four, anything can (and quite often does) happen.

Should be an exciting Thursday night. It sucks to have to wait almost 2 weeks!
