Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

That doesn't matter, they are because of Obama!
That price is either wrong or the store owners are crazy. Florida is an area where prices are supposed to spike because of refinery shutdowns.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

We'll see when gas hits(if it) 5 bucks.

we'll see all right

Romney _might_ be able to pull off Maine if things got really bad, but in my opinion there is no way Santorum could even with $5 gas. And I think Romney's chances are dropping by the day.

5 dollar a gallon gas means, 5 dollar a gallon heating oil, 5.50 a gallon diesel fuel which means inflation in every product we buy, especially food. Maybe the Southern part of the state could handle it, up here, no freakin way. You're probably right on Santorum?

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Blah blah blah. Now that huskyfan has been discredited for the umpteenth time posting nonsense (I was in Florida just last weekend and all the stations were between 3.55-3.63) I have to laugh at the desperation out of the GOP. Anti Birth Control? Hoping gas prices go up to 5 bucks a gallon? How does this sound: unless Reagan's corpse rises up and wins the nomination in a brokered convention you guys aren't looking good. Every election year somebody puts out a story about potential sky high gas prices, and they do it because 1) reporters are lazy, and 2) gas prices rise every spring as people travel more. On an inflationary basis, gas prices would have to rise to over $4 bucks a gallon to be at their historic highs ($1 a gallon in 1980 remains the highest price ever per gallon). So, while paying an extra 50 cents may be annoying, it ain't gonna make Mittens or Sanitarium any more likeable.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Isn't this an old fight from a few years ago? I was pretty sure this battle has been fought before.
...Or maybe I'm thinking of the anus-invading boy scout troop leaders and their socialist funding?
I think you are thinking of the latter. South Park's episode lampooning the Boy Scouts' ban on gay scout leaders and their problems with federal funding was at least 6 years ago, so that fight is old.

Edit: ELEVEN years ago. Wow.

The "Girl Scouts are the vanguard of lesbianizing young girls" is a new one, at least outside the kind of hardcore fundy paranoid circles that think New Orleans got hurricaned because of Mardi Gras. Every time it looks the GOP has shot their crazy wad, they somehow manage to outdo themselves.

I think paying an extra dollar would make the Repub more likable, depending on what Obama is willing to do to loosen gas prices. Although Barry has a very long way to fall to make it a contest.
I think gas could easily turn into the defining issue of the election. For example, yer average conservative libertarian is already buying into theories that the only reason Obama is blocking new pipelines (in an area that is already crisscrossed with literally hundreds of old leaky pipelines that could be replaced) is to further drive up gas prices and force people to buy his Volts. If he's seen as pushing for ever higher prices through regulation and blocking of new progress, it could cost him a LOT of votes when gas actually does go up (whether it be because of Iran or whatever). I'm very interested to see how all the candidates respond to the new spike.

I'm sure I remember this story from a few years ago. I must have stumbled into the cohort you're referencing.

"They're des-per-ate."

"Get used to it."

It's what they've got. Right now, Obama can just run Zombie Reagan's 1984 "Morning in America" ad with the names changed. "Why would we want to go back to those failed policies of just a few short years ago?" That kind of thing resonates.

On the social issues, of course they were going to jump to that the moment the economy improved, it was inevitable. They are hoping it still has enough juice in the Rust Belt, and that maybe they can somehow swing Catholic Latinos. Meh -- it's worth a try. What's the worst thing that happens? They lose now and all the dead wood is cleared away, and they have a generational shift in 2016, just like the Dems had in 1992.

Well, that is possible. ;)

The big "Oh Nooes, Teh Lesbians!" story I remember was the knuckleberries' poutrage about sex ed curricula when Jocylyn Elders was Surgeon General, and that sort of thing is evergreen.

Nobodies talking about 50 cents and it won't make Mittens or Santorum any more likeable, it will make Obama less likeable.

That much is true:

That's why it's suddenly become An Urgent Matter on Fox and Friends. It's not a bad gambit, and it's really all they got.

The AIPAC/Neocon coalition to press war with Iran is fascinating. They figure they can't lose: if they paint Obama as Neville Chamberlain (their go-to meme) they might get their enablers the RNC back in power. If they overplay their hand and actually ignite a war, they have what they want, and it becomes "Iran The Model" and all that sort of stupidity again.

Its the only way Obama loses. I'll guarantee it hurts my business tremendously if 5 buck a gallon comes about. I still wouldn't vote for Mittens or Santorum though:D

I think there is one other way Obama would lose: if the Euro Zone cracked up, or if something awful happened in China, and we went into a severe deflationary spiral which would give us higher unemployment. That would actually lower gas prices, but it wouldn't matter with the soup kitchen lines.

Re: 2012 Elections in 3-D!

Conan did it too. Granted, he is not exactly a member of the VRWC. :)
Sawyer's reaction is hilarious (at the revelation that gas can go up by 10 cent increments). I don't think she's in the habit of pumping her own gas.
