Things are starting to wind down in the hockey world. On the pro side, former Beavers are still involved in the NHL and AHL playoffs, while on the Recruit side, the USHL and CJHL playoffs still have some recruits involved. Portage is down 2-0 in the AVAVET Cup (MJHL vs. SJHL), but Portage is already guaranteed a spot in the RBC Cup as the host team. I have not been able to find any stats on the AVAVET Cup games.

Humboldt of the SJHL will be hosting the RBC Cup this year, not Portage. Since Humboldt is already assured a spot in the tournament, Portage will also get in no matter how they do in the AVAVET Cup.

Things are really starting to slow down now. Matt Read is still active with the Flyers playoff run, Chris McKelvie (Connecticut) and Andrew Martens (Toronto) are on the AHL rosters but have yet to see action with their respective playoff teams. In the recruits, Brendan Harms and Portage are on to the RBC Cup after taking Humboldt to seven games. Bob Kinne (Lincoln) and James Hansen (Waterloo) will face off against one another in the USHL Western Conference Finals.

Word got around at the RPI banquet this weekend that Jeremy Coupal, who is graduating this month, will be a volunteer assistant for the Beavers next season. From all I've heard, Jeremy is an outstanding leader in the locker room despite the fact that he was a practice goalie, working wonders with video especially. He joined the varsity team after being one of the founders of club hockey at RPI.

The school, earlier this year, changed its parking fee from $5 per car, taken by attendants at entrances, to a $2 fee added to the purchase of every ticket.

There was an outcry. So much so that the school has reduced the price of its men's hockey season tickets by $36, so the parking fee is gone.

“I am pleased to announce free parking for Beaver hockey’s most loyal fans -- our season ticket holders,” said Rick Goeb, BSU's AD, in a recent school news release.

“We heard loud and clear how dissatisfied our fans were with the center’s new parking fee, and we are doing something about it,” Goeb said. “Season ticket holders have been essential and enthusiastic partners in the success of the Sanford Center. This decision to offset the new parking fees is an expression of how much we value that support.”

People who still purchase individual tickets will still be assessed the $2 per ticket parking fee, but Season Ticket Holders will be off the hook.

Things are getting down there on the professional and junior ranks. Right now, former Beaver Andrew Martens is still alive with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL Playoffs. He is on the playoff roster, but has yet to see action. Also, former Beaver Rob Sirianni is still active with the Italian National Team at the IIHF Championships.

On the recruits side, James Hanson is still active in the USHL Championship with the Waterloo Blackhawks.
