I'm not going to pretend that the owners are negotiating in clear faith, but are you ****ing nuts? Have you not noticed who the head of the NHLPA currently is? The second Fehr was hired, you HAVE to lock the players out when the CBA ends or they'll agree to your madness, play to March 15th, cash their paychecks and then go on strike. You know, like Fehr did with baseball.

If I was the NHL, the only way that I would even consider that is if ALL player salary was placed in an escrow account, only to be paid out after the season was finished and forfeited (to charity) in the case of a player strike that cancels the post-season. No way that the players would agree to that because it would effectively kill any leverage that the players have in the negotiations.

Here's an idea: the League DOESN'T cancel the Winter Classic, and has that as incentive to commit to getting a deal done so the season can start by December 1st and they can have their long lead-in to the event.
I'm semi-convinced that if Sidney Crosby played one game in Russia, this would end real quick.

The two sides are speaking Klingon and French right now. Their proposals don't even run on the same economic systems. Until that changes, it's just posturing and ego. Cancelling or not canceling the Winter Classic doesn't change that a bit.
