2012-13 D1 Scores and Results

Re: 2012-13 D1 Scores and Results

UMD 1 MSU 0 after about a 22 minute first period!

Unusual situation...Hickel scores on a shot in the second half of the period, the 'Dogs start celebrating but the ref waves it off apparently thinking it hit the crossbar. After about 2 more minutes of play Hickel's shot is reviewed and called a goal. The previous 2 minutes of play are wiped off the clock and play resumes.

No coaches have been evicted from the game...yet.

Re: 2012-13 D1 Scores and Results

Final Score: Clarkson 3 Mercyhurst 0

Period 1: Clarkson 2 Mercyhurst 0
At 8:16 Rattray scores on the PP from Mercer and Ambrose
At 11:54 Rattray scores on a 5X3 PP from Mercer and Ambrose
Knights kill 2 penalties, go 2 for 2 on the PP
Shots were Clarkson 10-8. Erica Howe made a couple of outstanding saves that period.
Fairly evenly played period. Slight edge to the knights.

Period 2: Clarkson 3 Mercyhurst 0
At 4:34 Skirrow tips in front an Ambrose blast from the point, a third PP goal also Rattray an assist
Shots Mercyhurst 12-6. Erica Howe with another outstanding period.
Knights kill 3 PP opportunities, go 1 for 3 on the PP.
Knights have only won 10 of 35 faceoffs thru 2 periods. OUCH

Period 3: Clarkson 3 Mercyhurst 0
Nisbet stopped on a breakaway in the last 3 minutes of the period
A great 3rd period played by the Knights despite being outshot
Mercyhurst gets 16 shots in the period. Howe was again outstanding.
Both teams killed 2 power plays

UMD 2 MSU 0 after 2.

Hickel scores her second goal with about 40 seconds left in the period at the end of MSU's first power play and on an MSU change while the puck was still in the neutral zone. Hickel skated in against a defender, took a shot, Butters didn't control it, Hickel fought through the defender while crashing the net (literally) and scored on her second touch as she fell to the ice with the defender draped over her.

Good effort.

Thibault has now migrated from the injury list to the bench/ice.

UMD 3 MSU 2 with 1:30 left in the 3rd on a just completed successful MSU power play.

Re: 2012-13 D1 Scores and Results

On to OT. MSU scored with extra skater with 11 seconds left in the game. A few good saves by Butters in the game. Black not tested until the last few minutes and allowed 3 goals. A fairly even game.

Means called a time out with a minute or so left in the game!!!!!

Re: 2012-13 D1 Scores and Results

UMD-MSU shootout about to begin...with different MSU goaltender! Strategic move with the first action this year for this goaltender!

MSU 5 - UMD 4 Final after OT.

UMD folds in the last few minutes of the game after having what appeared to be a stranglehold on the game.

Black scored on twice on two shots in OT...did not look good. Krichiver coming in cold for MSU stones the 'Dogs on all 3 shots! The commentators had pretty much written off MSU. MSU has scored 13 out of their 18 goals this year in the 3rd period of their games! They didn't quit when it looked dismal. Looks good on them.

Maybe we'll get to see what Carlstrom can do in net for UMD tomorrow.

Play by play commentator and colour commentator both very engaged in the game and with each other...really good job I thought. Nice work.

For those who might be interested the games are being streamed for free...tomorrow's game is at 3:00 P.M.

Bemidji beats UW 1-0. UW's scoring drought reaches three games.
I guess I would like to offer as an observation that losing to Bemidji really makes those hard plastic commemorative first game in the new building tickets all that much more meaningful.

I have some very good friends who at least for the last couple of years were Wisconsin fans.

But for the rest of you . . .

Forever: Bemidji 1, Wisconsin 0.

Fairly possible this level of unpredictability lasts the duration. My speculation.

UMD-MSU shootout about to begin...with different MSU goaltender! Strategic move with the first action this year for this goaltender!
In the shootout versus Wisconsin earlier, MSU's starting goaltender was 0 for 3 in stopping Badgers' shooters, so maybe shootouts just aren't her thing. The MSU box score shows UMD scoring on 1 of 3 last night, with McParland converting, so I guess that's progress.

Re: 2012-13 D1 Scores and Results

Krichiver coming in cold for MSU stones the 'Dogs on all 3 shots!

Correction...McParland scored on her shot in OT. Didn't see it go in...didn't appear to be a goal (to me) and the commentators incorrectly stated afterwards that UMD hadn't scored in OT so that's what stuck in my mind even though the final score didn't jive with that comment nor with the initial impression that I had had. Regardless, still an excellent and exciting, although unusual, debut for Krichiver.

Thanks to ARM for reminding me.
