2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Dirty little secret about Brenthoven: Never learned how to skate. Tried rollerblading once, to ease into it. After a year, practicing everyday, I could turn a little, slowly. Could go straight. Couldn't just stand still, and couldn't stop. My method of stopping? Find the curb, faceplant into the grass. :o

But with a team name like "Rubes," how could I NOT ask to buy a jersey?! :p

You would make a perfect sieve. I mean goalie.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I suck at skating (not as much as hoven obviously), but I am in for this part of the event! I am happy to say I was not part of the puke parade last time. :D
I am proud to say that I was present at the event last time, and I was not one of the pukers. :p

Is the Edison rink still around? Less travel between rink and Das Boot.

The last time I played at Edison/Northeast, we had to put out orange cones to mark where the ice had been gouged away and the concrete was present. We also had a bum come in and try to hit us up to "borrow" $20 while we were on the bench. I hate that arena.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

It's called Northeast Ice Arena now. Seemed like a dump the one time I played there.

Just happened to play there on Monday. Ice was in good shape but it is far from anything special. If STA is a 10 I'd give Northeast a 2 or 3.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Dumb question: is there going to be t-shirts this year, like in Denver '08? If so, I'd be willing to chip in a bit extra, in exchange for a "sponsor's" logo/avatar thing on the shirt.

For those unfamiliar, some of us chipped in extra money (as in, above the cost for buying the shirt) for this for the Denver shirt. IIRC, the four logos on the back represented Puck Swami, Bakunin, the CCCV (Quizmire/Sloe Gin/Brenthoven/Bakunin), and RStarr.

FYP. Eric, are you out there?

For those who may be unfamiliar, Eric was lead organizer in Buffalo. (2003) In the majority of the years since, he has handled T-Shirts for this event. However on-line sales for the DC shirts didn't go particularly well. And IIRC, we didn't have any sort of T-Shirt or souvenior last year at Yost.

So the question for Eric is, do you want to handle the shirts this year? And if the answer to that is no, do any of the Minnesota-based organizers want to take on that task?

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

Is that the one with the electronic ice cleaner?

Are you thinking of Blake? They have an electric ice cleaner that provides debatable results. The arena itself is in an old barn style, with the wooden cieling similar to Minnehaha's.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

I think there is an electric zamboni with the cord that is always connected to it at Blaine's Fogarty.

There is. I was going to reply with that to Greyeagle before but wasn't 100% certain. Now that you mentioned it, too...I am.

Also, as far as the game goes I poked around at ice availability at STA for early April and its calendar isn't updated yet. What time windows on Friday and Saturday are we looking at? I don't have any plans associated with the DI FF so I'm indifferent, but if we can narrow down some time estimates I'm more than happy to call the guy and see what the situation is.

Re: 2011 Posters' Game - St Paul

If you can really pick and choose, that's a very nice luxury. As often as not, the task has been to find out what's available, and determine which timeslots we can live with. That said...

Friday: Usually Friday games have been "after work." The thought being that local posters should be able to work on Friday, yet still play. Out-of-towners may have daytime tourist plans. Ideally you'd be done no later than 10 PM, to allow for postgame activities. So ideally you're looking for a start time between 5:00 & 8:00 PM.

Saturday: No one wants to get up at the crack of dawn -- to say the least. I believe we've started as early as 11:00 AM. I'd allow 3 hours between the end of the Posters' Game and Face-off of the FF Championship Game. More might be better. So your ideal start time would fall between 11:00 AM & 2:00 PM. Double check the start time of the title game. Sometimes face-off is rather early in the evening to accomodate ESPN. If so, that may be a constraint on the Posters' Game.

Again, be prepared to compromise. If you get your first choice, so much the better.

What sort of time blocks have they been in the past? Two-hour blocks?
