2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Much like when other cities riot, I would bet the percentage of hockey fans involved in the mayhem is less than 1%.

Some people just want an excuse to cause damage or steal.

These were not fans, they were liquored up anarchists looking for trouble. The real fans stayed inside Rogers and applauded Thomas, Chara and Lucic.

I have a new nickname for the Sedin twins - Null and Void :D

Great job, number 8 - once you took over as President, the team became accountable to each other and took on your playing style - the big, bad Bruins are back!

Only one RFA on the team - Ryder. Do they try to sign him or let him go? Felger said that with Recchi and Ryder's salaries potentially gone, they are 10 million under the cap.

This is a young team. I can't believe Bergeron is only 25!

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Any update on this guy?

Someone tweeted that he was killed, but I have no confirmation of this and hope it isn't true. There are reports that multiple Bruins fans were beaten.

I have to disagree about the rioters in Vancouver not being hockey fans. They set up giant TV's out in the street and had thousands of people watching the game. Some left, but most stayed until the end. There were reports that as the game clock ticked down to 0:00 the screens were pelted with beer, food, garbage and who knows what else. The beginnings of the riot came from those masses of people. I have no doubt that people watching on TV, or in the crowd, realized that they could do things and use the riot as cover (I'd love to hear more about this bank that was broken into) but to say that Canucks fans weren't involved is incredibly naive.

Ha, I was wondering how that party was going to go. That explains it.

So is the parade Friday or Saturday? I need to know which shift to get covered from work.

And I've never been to a parade. Where in Boston is ideal to go? Do they do the big rally at the end at City Hall?

The parade (if it's like all the others) will start at the Prudential Center, go down Boylston Street past the Public Gardens and the Common, take a left up Tremont Street all the way Government Center. Waiting to hear if it's tomorrow or Saturday. Weather will be better Saturday. Kids will be out of school. Though, the Sox game at 1pm might be an issue. Who cares?? I'm going whenever! Still giddy!!! :)

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

Like I tweeted last night, could someone do a courtesy/safety check on Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler? Hope they're not taking their trade to ATL too hard right now...

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

I would think that all of Boston would have this parade thing down by now. My god, all they do is win **** over there.

Didn't read back but it was on the news last night that Boston is the first city to win all (4) major sports titles in a 7 year period. That's pretty amazing.

I certainly don't think they were flipping cars and burning them.

Throwing bottles and drinks, etc., sure that happens. But once it degrades into beatings and stealing. I just think thats a different group of people.

The Patriots need to pick it up! 7 years is too long of a drought. Also remember, the Pats went 18-0 since then and didn't win the championship, if they didn't choke that would be more like 4 years.

Yet in the videos, most of the serious damage is done by people in Canucks jerseys. peckin Canadians.

There's a picture of a bunch of people in Canucks jerseys turning over a police car. Those are fans. I think a combination of alcohol, frustration and the mob mentality swept up a bunch of people. No doubt a bunch of people used the riot as cover, but the riot was started by Canucks fans.

All fanbases have idiots.

The people in that clip all look like drunken college students. It's the equivalent of rolling cars on Franklin Street when UNC wins or throwing burning couches out of high rises whenever Maryland wins or loses. Not fans, just dumb children.

Plus Katy Perry is at the Garden Saturday night.

Screw it! Have it at 1pm today. It's a beautiful day. Fire up those Tweets and get everyone out there.

This Vancouver stuff is ****ed up. No way it would be anything like this in Boston. If for no other reason that the Boston police wouldn't stand around and let it get this bad.

Wait do you work at Logan? I work at PWM.

Im going to be working at PWM. Just waiting for the background check and everything to clear. I'll be working for Regional Elite who flies for Delta.

Speaking about the parade, where is the best place to view? Im sure Gvt Center will be PACKED, along with the Commons. Im assuming this will be a "rolling rally" with no formal stage set up?

Re: 2011 NHL Playoffs IV: Rome is Burning

So, who's changing the title to "Vancouver is burning"?
Shouldn't the next one be about a lockout? :D Seems like all major sports agreements are ending this year.

NHL Agreement ends September 15, 2012.
MLB Agreement ends December 11, 2011.
NBA Agreement ends June 30, 2011.
NFL.. Well we all know about that.
